Very good Methylcobalamin!
I have to take supplemental cobalamin because my body can't absorb it through food. I have to take it sublingually. Most of the B12 supplements out there are CRAP! They're cyanocobalamin - which is so bad Japan won't allow it in any of its supplement products at all! But it's cheap and stable, so manufacturers in the US like to use it. It has to be converted in your liverto remove the cyanide molecule - which is left behind and builds up. It's then converted to methylcobalamin - SO, why not just buy Methylcobalamin to begin with?I've taken Doctor's Best Methyl B12 for a long time, and I've been really happy with it! Everyone in our family gets a Doctor's Best B12!There are only 2 co-factors of cobalamin (2 active forms, or bioavailable forms) - Methylcobalamin and Adenosylcobalamin. Sometimes the two are combined and that is called Hydroxyocobalamin - which is also a great product! Some people have to take the methylated form because of a genetic disorder called MTHTR - I don't have that, I just can't absorb cobalamin in my gut, I need to take it into my bloodstream directly by having a supplement melt under my tongue, or I can get shots, but they are generally cyanocobalamin - because our doctors aren't well versed in nutrition! Grrr!Although both Methyl and Adenosyl are both active forms, whichever form of B12 is taken, our bodies convert it to methylcobalamin. Methylcobalamin needs no conversion. It goes straight to work, expending no extra energy. Methyl B12 goes into our bloodstream and protects our brain by removing toxins, and converting homocysteine to methionine. After methionine is created, a methyl-group is contributed to create adenosylcobalamin - the other active form of B12! I often take both when I can afford them because I have to take a large dose of Methyl, and I also have to take some Adenosylcobalamin because ... I'm going to post this quote because it's SO vitally important for some people who suffer from any type of B12 chronic illness to know."The Citric Acid cycle, or Kreb’s cycle, is the process by which mitochondria creates ATP, or cellular energy. During this process, adenosylcobalamin must assist in the conversion of methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA. Without this process, the Citric Acid cycle fails. This results in cellular damage and potential DNA and RNA damage, setting the stage for degenerative disease. Early symptoms of this issue manifests as fatigue or early aging."http:// www.globalhealingcenter.com/natural-health/adenosylcobalamin-4-facts-know/Everyone needs Methylcobalamin - some are able to get it through food. Some have to supplement, and for most people one of those will do the trick, For some with genetic problems, or illness, we have to have bloodwork done, and keep a careful eye on things - it's just the way it is. If you suspect you have a problem with B12 absorption or conversion problem, you might want to see your doctor to get tested to see what's going on.I highly recommend Doctor's Best Supplements! I use many different ones, and find them to be consistently of a very high quality.I did rate this 4 instead of 5 stars because of the red dye - which stays in my mouth for hours and stains my teeth. I don't know why that's necessary.
