Pirate Den Card Game Crash Of Games

Tiny pieces, not for young children
I love this game!!! It's so fun. Beware, though: the gems are quite small and not suitable for young children who could easily shove them up their noses, into ears, etc. I've only played this game with my fully adult friends and had a blast. The game play is a bit complex for kids, but if they're into pirates, they'll love it.

LOVE THIS GAME
Once you figure it out and get the hang of it, it is a really fun game to play with your family. With all that goes on with this game, you really get to know the answer you've always wondered... do I truly know what my partner is thinking?Quick game too, doesn't take up a lot of time

Fun, easy, and fast game to play
Easy to play. Great components. The bag to hold the gems is really nice. Can you outsmart the other players on what gems to take? Maybe? The more you play with the same group the better it gets. Great filler game. A must buy.

Enjoy the packaging with the cloth bag
A delightful game with simple rules and a lot of depth. Five of us usually play games on Friday nights, and this game is a worthy addition to the rotation. Enjoy the packaging with the cloth bag, jewels, and gold. Excellent artwork as well.

marginal title from dead company- but worth playing
One of Crash Games weaker entries- a “poor mans Incan gold” - decent quality but not recommended as a staple or ongoing game in collection. Lacks depth or satisfying endgame.

Buy This Game for Yourself and Gift it to Someone, Too
This is a beautiful game, with spectacular artwork by Todd Harris, illustrator of The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom series. (You can see more of his work, including art from Pirate Den, on facebook.com/toddharrisart.) The cards and printing are high quality. The clear plastic gems and shiny gold-nugget treasure counters come in a velvet bag that is conveniently large enough for an adult hand to reach into for the random draw stage. The two-piece box is large, sturdy, nicely printed, and slightly textured, which means it looks great on your shelf and makes an impressive gift item.Pirate Den is described as a bluffing game, but it's not like playing Texas hold-'em. It's more like rock-paper-scissors, but with more depth. Each player has a defined set of cards, which gives you options for plundering treasure from Spanish (yellow), English (red), or Dutch (blue) traders. A treasure pool is drawn and revealed at the start of each turn. You play a card to capture one color of treasure, two colors, or three, or you can hold back to steal a single color from another player. But you have to pay attention to whose raid takes precedence (attacks for fewer colors score first) and who has already used their attack-red-and-yellow-ships or steal-blue-treasure cards. You decide what card to play based on the available treasure pool and your guess of what the other players will do.The rules are easy to learn, and the game plays quickly. So the new guy who needs to figure out what he's doing can start fresh again in 20 minutes, instead of losing to the experts in a 3-hour marathon like newbies do with Risk or Catan. Gameplay is strategic, but there's enough randomness to keep things fun.I'd say that the 14+ rating is high. We usually play with my kids and their cousins. Our 8-year-old crowd got bored quickly, but we've had lots of fun with kids from 10 to 16 years old, in groups with and without adults. The game doesn't favor older players over younger ones or veterans over novices. You can't go in with the strategy that worked last time and expect to dominate play. You have to adapt to the dynamics of the crowd you're playing with. So replay value is terrific; the game doesn't get old.In contrast to reviewers who receive free or discounted merchandise, I paid more for this game on Kickstarter and waited forever through a long-delayed production and fulfillment process. (Crash Games is the hero of this story, saving the project and making the final game more posh than expected.) Despite the angst involved in getting my copy of Pirate Den, it ranks among my favorite game purchases of the last few years. You don't have to wait for Kickstarter. You can place an order and have Pirate Den in your hands in two days. You should.
