Scary Found Footage Style Movie
This isn't a "so scary i couldn't finish it" sort of movie. It gets more interesting the more times you watch. Catching things you maay have not the first time. Kind of intense from the very start. The characters are not absolutely awful, say for one.

Excellent haunted horror film for today's world
Short, concise, unique, and scary. If you enjoy the Paranormal Activity films, you'll like this since it's another haunted horror type film. The integration of the tools and features within Zoom was a nice and creepy touch. It makes you feel like you're an active participant in what is happening and see exactly what the characters are seeing. It also touches on the interesting concept of the possibility of conducting a séance over the Internet. I was thoroughly entertained and pleasantly surprised. There's no background for the characters or the entity; the movie is about a Zoom call session and therefore it IS like a Zoom call. It starts, what needs to be presented is shown, then it ends. While it is pretty low-budget, I think it was excellently done for what it is. This is a pandemic horror film and is designed as such. I like how they took an existing concept and adapted it for the current times.Watch it in the dark for the best effect! As to the 1-2 star reviews, it's clear this type of horror isn't their forte and that's fine, but that doesn't mean it's a bad film. When it comes to horror, I prefer movies that I find genuinely creepy and unsettling. I just watched this last night right before bed and I had unpleasant dreams; and that's a clear indicator for me. That's how it should be.

Good for a spooky movie night in!
Ok, is it the most original film? No. Will it leave you afraid to go to sleep? Probably not. Does it come with a lot of good jumps? Yes! And does it keep you interested? It did me! I give a solid 5 out of 5 because it does everything I want a horror movie to do and what more can you ask? If you like horror movies, give it a try.

Very effective for what it sought to do
Let's establish something right off the bat- This movie was clearly DESIGNED to be watched alone, in the dark, on a LAPTOP (and I would recommend with headphones). It's a Zoom call. It's supposed to feel like a Zoom call. And it is the scariest Zoom call that you will ever join.Host takes the "found footage" genre and cranks it up a notch. By the end of it, you don't feel as though you're watching a found footage movie. You feel as though you're a part of the Zoom call. When the credits rolled I couldn't help but clap due to how well it was executed (heck, even the credits themselves fit PERFECTLY).It is a short, enjoyable, suspenseful, and immersive horror movie. There were times when my cats made noises in the room that I had to pause the movie and take my headphones off just to verify that yes, those were indeed my cats and not what was happening in the Zoom call.Reading some of the comments I was expecting a lackluster low-budget movie with borderline laughable effects. Given the grainy footage from some of the laptop/phone cameras my expectations were not very high in the effects department. But boy was I surprised. The movie is less than an hour long. You really don't have anything to lose. Go sit at your desk alone, grab some headphones, turn off the lights, set it to fullscreen on your laptop (turn off the backlit keyboard), and have yourself an enjoyable spooky time :)

Realism adds to Creep Factor
What made this movie so effectively scary is that it was very, very realistic: the time period (current - as in the period in which I'm writing this - during the COVID lockdown), the concept (because of COVID, friends gather online to engage in something "fun".....haha), the dialogue (nothing is stilted but very much how we would speak to one another and the comments we would make - right down to laughing at one of the friend's fathers because of how he is treating COVID like it's no big deal) and last, but not least, the thrills. I won't say anything specific about what makes the thrills scary because I don't want to give anything away. However, I will say that in the beginning, nothing is overtly frightening, and there are no jump scares. It's just a general uneasiness and creep factor that comes with messing about with "the spirit world" when you're not familiar with it. The writers had a great concept with this movie, and everything is conveyed through the words and actions alone. Very well done. And if you're wondering if it's something like Unfriended - it's definitely not. And I should add, whether or not you would find it creepy and scary depends on how much you're willing to believe that there are forces in this world that are unseen but still at work.

Surpassed expectations
I had heard very good things about HOST, but I still went in with only moderate expectations. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised. It didn’t take long to get going, and it didn’t waste any time with needless dialogue or overdone setups. With a run time of under an hour, it’s obvious that the film makers knew what they wanted to do and delivered it while, like I said, not wasting any time. And with the backdrop being that this was during all the covid lockdowns, it really gave you the feeling of being trapped and isolated.Solid flick. Highly recommended.

The movie was excellent because it was horror. However, the events in the movie occur in real life too. Excellent
