How often can you use this product on a long-haired cat?

Hi, the inside manuals say you should de-shed your cat once a week for about 10-20 minutes depending on current state of your cat's hair. Take care.

Does this work for a 20 pounds short hair dog?

I’ve not tried it on a small dog but would guess yes if not really thick coat. It is a great tool. My cats loved it after a trial period.

If I have both long and short haired cats, which is best to get?

I am certain it will work on both. My cat has longer fur for being classified as a short hair.
