Does this share water with the main tank?

Yes it goes on the inside of tank. I leave the top of mine about 1/4 inch above the water level in main tank & slide the lid to one side so I don't have to take it on & off to feed the baby fish & so they don't get out. I'm on my 3rd set of baby fish . The suction cups hold really well but you can slide it up & down a little bit if you need to & it stays in place.

Can I use the medium or large to breed my zebra danios and tetras fish?

I think you probably could if she's comfortable laying eggs in there. My zebra is getting ready to drop her eggs soon and I'm trying to get her to do it in one of these now. I got the large and there's a pretty decent amount of room in there for my pair to swim around and hang out.

Can you use it without the divider once the mom is removed? I am looking for a larger plastic in-tank cage to let my platy babies grow.

of course you can, it is 5.2*2.7*2.9", you need to keep an eye on the babies, once some grow up, you need to remove it out of this breeding box in case it is too crowd.
