Does this do anything better than $20 worth of items from the hardware store would do?

$35 at the hardware store and on amazon got me 4 pulleys, 200 feet of rope, wall mounts, various other bits and pieces, and a wench; everything needed for the job. Not to mention each pulley is rated to hold at least 400lbs, so it has a theoretical hold of 1600lbs... a much better deal if you ask me.

As far as my install, it will work with any hardtop. You need to be aware of buying correct length for ceiling height though.

My ceiling has metal studs. Can i still use this and if so what do i use to mount boards to the celiling?

you'll need to drill through your studs no matter if they are wood or metal. all mounting hardware is included. its just nuts and bolts. nothing complicated, just a pain in the butt
