Q: My brother and his wife are boaters. I know nothing... what would a sailboater use this for? Starting my Christmas shopping.

This tool has parts that would make any boater's life easier. The Marlin spike for prying open locked knots, the shackle key for loosening and tightening shackle pins, the knife for cutting rope and other things, the bottle opener for opening bottles and the knife being a decent grade SS is nice too. WE sell several of these knifes each month. It's a great addition to any sailor's tool box.

Q: What kind of stainless steel are all parts made of? type 410 (13%cr), 304 (18%cr, 8%ni), 316 (18%cr, 8%ni, 3%mo)? can a magnet lift it?

I have no idea of what it is made of but for the price I paid I was amazed at the strength and quality of it. The tools and the blade are strong and useful. There has been no discoloration or rust and I keep it handy and exposed to moisture.

Q: Is the ruler in inches or cm? The pic shows inches but there are both inch and cm versions (I prefer cm) and I want to be sure which this is.
