does anyone know if this works with G-Technology drives?

Yes, it definately works!  ( May 6, 2021 ).  I have a couple dual-HDD RAID G-Tech drives from several years ago.  They have 3 connection options -> USB 2.0, Firewire 800 & eSATA - all ports on the back of the enclosure.  I was pleasantly surprised at how much faster this eSATA connector was then when using either the FW 800 or the USB 2.0!!!  --\-- I was using the USB 3.0 port on my iMac from 2015, so not a blazing fast machine at this point.  Using the "AJA System Test Lite" - System Disk Test app to test the data transfer rate, I got around 120 MB/s write & read with the FW 800 & around 220-240 MB/s write & read with this eSATA to USB 3.0 cable !!!  ( I was pleasently surprised... which lead me to read more, and I never realized how much faster this eSATA connection is, over FW 800... maybe the marketing or familiarity of Fire Wire caused me to go years without trying the eSATA port... lesson learned.  )

Now I'm planning on ordering more of these cables and using this connection until I accedentally upgrade my Mac's OS & am mostly forced to move on to computer with a proper USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 & 4 style connectors.... and hopefully in several years of studying I'll comprehend the difference between USB-C 3.1 Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3-Version 4-Mach 3-Turbo-Superstar-Infinity.... :)

Sarcasm aside, this cable works very well with G-Tech drives & a Mac running macOS 10.14....

Question 3

I have an eSATA port on my motherboard.  I want to hookup USB 3 devices via this cable to the eSATA port on PC.  Possible?

I have not tried connecting a USB 3 device into an eSATA port, so I can't offer advice.  Those already responding say this won't work.  Also, remember this cable will work fine for a connection with only 1 device.  In my case I was connecting two external drives (in a BlackX Duet external Dock Station) via an eSATA connection into one USB3 port on my computer.  For this to work the convertor cable or device must support the Port Multiplier protocol.  This StarTech cable does not.  However, Amazon also offers a DATOptic convertor which DOES support this protocol and has been working fine for me. Can you use this to connect an external hard drive to a DirecTV box?

I'm not sure but I will tell you this. Any HD connected to the StarTech , I bought the 2.5/3.5" SATA/IDE version, is recognized. It's basically an external HD. I would say yes. Just make sure the drive is powered!
