Sold on a Monday: A Novel

Well researched Historical Fiction at it's best
I’m a huge fan of Kristina McMorris and this book was such a treat. First you learn of the photo and then the story unfolds into something much deeper. The tragedies of families who were poor and hungry and perhaps ill are sad by themselves. Then add in the choices people make to sell s story and complicated doesn’t touch this book. Ellis and Lily are quite different but yet both are hiding secrets.Loved the journey this book took me on. Learning more about the early 1930’s and loving the newspaper aspect in the tale. Highly recommend!! I had the chance to hear the author speak as well and the research that went into this and all her books was fascinating. Grab this book soon!!

Based in truth!
Sold On A Monday exceeded my expectations and I enjoyed it so thoroughly I could not put it down! I loved the character’s connectivity through their kindness and concern for the children’s well being. The twists & turns in the story brought a reality to a troubled time in America’s history. The desperation of people to have to resort to selling their children was perfectly described through the eyes of all the characters including their mother who never gave up hope. And the fact that it was based in a true story made it very authentic and believable. I enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to all readers. Ten out of ten!

OK story but not an autobiography.
From the title and photo on the cover I was expecting a first hand account of a young boy's sad experience. The story was actually about two main characters who investigated two children who were bought. It was still a pretty good story and highlighted events that did happen to children during the depression.

Interesting basis for a story
I thought the basing of the novel on a historical photo was interesting. As this is a best seller, I was expecting a book that would grab me more than this did. I won't be keeping the book to reread it.
