Would this be comfortable for someone who sleeps sitting up in the bed without a headboard?

I think so. You must be propping yourself up with pillows or something already. My neck pillow stayed in place well, when using it on a plane, even when I wasn’t leaning my head back against the seat. I found it to be quite uncomfortable, resting my chin on the chin rest section of the pillow.

don't have paperwork anymore but it was good quality and very comfortable. included a coupon to get another one free from manufacturer but I did not use it.

how is the hood? does it cover your eyes or over your face?

Yes it does. It is detachable and actually attaches in the front so it covers your face.
