Really great "cleaned up" version for younger folks!
I read the original version and LOVED it, so I was super excited to find a young readers edition! The original version has a little too much mature language for me to be comfortable with my kids reading it. But this has cleaned up language, some of the "colorful" stories are more glossed over, but its chalk full of fascinating history and science! It's a favorite among my kids. (For those from a more religious worldview, it does talk about big bang, millions of years, etc.)

Maybe a bit much for 10yr old
For a 10 year old reader the first section seems a little dark. A lot of talk about chemical weapons and their results. Not saying the descriptive details are not true just saying they seem a bit much for the younger reader.

Interested in Science?
This is a fantastic YA book on the origin of many of the elements on the periodic table. Written in a fun story form so that it is engaging for teens. Used in the classroom for 8th/9th grade students doing early Chemistry studies. Anyone (adults too) will enjoy this book with an interest in Science topics!
