Cacao Tea, 15 Sachets

I love the taste of this tea, mainly because I love chocolate. It's not a strong tea, it's just perfect! It is now my go to tea!

This is not the cacao tea I had in Costa Rica. First, this product has cocoa nibs in it, which authentic cacao tea does not--only husks. Cocoa nibs have caffeine in them, which I have a medical sensitivity to, so there's that. But also, what is with the over-packaging? My bag of cacao tea that I bought in Costa Rica was just that--a bag of cocoa tea. This product is a foo-foo tin, with individually packaged sachets. Not at all environmentally friendly. Will never recommend, nor will I ever purchase this product again.

I tried the loose leaf product from this brand and it was soooo good. I thought the tea bags would be of similar quality and taste, but I was wrong. I steeped the tea for more than 10 minutes and I still could not get the same amount of taste as the loose leaf. In fact, there was barely any taste at all--it was just brown colored flavorless water at this point.

I really liked the taste of it and did feel the intended benefits, like relaxation from the magnesium, which I have been trying to incorporate into my diet/routine. After I drank it at night, I slept really well, and woke up feeling good - not groggy. I liked the packaging and that there is the option to buy as loose tea or sachets (since I don't really like the hassle of loose tea, sachets are more convenient for me). The tin is really cute, so I think this will make for a great gift too.

When I first opened the package and removed a bag, I was hopeful; it smelled genuinely like a dark chocolate bar. But the resulting tea lacks any of that chocolate aroma. The flavor isn't by any means foul but I'm not really getting any hints of chocolate. Rather, it has a kind of savory, earthy quality not entirely unlike -- and I swear I'm not crazy -- miso soup. The flavor improved slightly upon adding sweetener and a dash of half-and-half. Maybe if I "squint" hard enough I can just barely discern something chocolatey from the flavor ... but I never would have picked up on it if I weren't looking for it. At over a buck per cup I expected more, frankly. If you're looking for a healthy alternative to satisfy cocoa cravings on cold snowy days, I don't think this tea will scratch that itch.
