I just had a new water softener installed and noticed some white water spots on my fixtures. I had the company come back out to adjust and test the water to make. sure it was working. They tested the water with the soap solution hard water test kit. The one where you fill the tube 1/2 way with water and add one drop of soap and shake it to create suds on the water. Lasting suds means you have soft water. If the suds dissipate quickly you have hard water. Well suds remained so I have soft water.But I wanted to know how soft. So I came across this test kit but was a little hesitant to buy it because some of the reviews said it did work. That the test strips stayed the same color no matter what water source was used. I took a chance and ordered it.It is a great kit and comes with 150 tests strips, a test tube and the color scale on the bottle that show the the hardness in gpg and ppm. I tested my water and the color really didn't change matched the first box which is "0" hardness. Because of the other reviews I though the tests strips didn't work. So I tested another water source which I know is hard water and the test strip worked. There was a noticeable change in color and it matched the 4th color on the bottle which is a hardness of 7 gpg so I know that the test stripes work.The only confusing thing is the expiration date of the tests strips. There are 50 test strips that come open and ready to use in the container. Then there are 2 more sealed foil packets each with 50 test strips. There is an expiration date of 5/2025 on the side of the container that has the 50 ready to use strips but the 2 other seal foil packages that contain the other tests strips say to use them within 6 months of opening the package. So does that mean the the tests strips in the sealed packages are good until you open them or does every thing expire on 5/2023? Anyway it is a good kit and it works plus I have a year and 8 months to use the remaining 148 strips....

We have been trying to get our water softener to produce soft water. In the meantime and until a technician can come to check it out, we are using these hard water testing strips. Simple to use and most helpful.

This product worked and gave me excellent results checking household water, water softener, and pool water. The multi test strips I used from four different companies never worked on the pool or household water with regards to water hardness. Which really irritated me to say the least. If you're looking for a test medium for water hardness, then look no further.

I have hard water. The test pieces react to the water, but the color did not match well with the color code on the bottle. I tried several tests to be sure.
