John Williams - Live in Vienna [Blu-ray]

First rate recording. If you have a good sound system & like John Williams music this Blu-ray is highly recommended..

One of the best orchestral concerts for movie lovers ever devised. Yes, this rivals Hans Zimmer, plus the IS in Dolby Atmos too, so it sounds absolutely mesmerising, enchanting and full of the emotions that each movie soundtrack feeds back to you. A stroll down memory lane and the sheer hard work that both the composer and the orchestra have to go to to bring these memorable scores to life. One for the movie enthusiasts, wholeheartedly recommended and if played on any half decent audio system, a stirring of emotion and memory. I cannot believe this is not as popular as it should be, this is art in itself and should be in any movie enthusiast’s collection.

A very enjoyable and moving concert featuring John Williams conducting a selection of his most memorable film score moments. It is amazing how many pieces he has written.

If you enjoy classical music done well, then look no further. I bought this for mum elderly Mother, (I too am a bit of a fan of the great man). It's all here Star Wars, Indy, E.T. and lots more. Further more it was recorded using Dolby Atmos sound. I have a Atmos sound bar and this made the whole experience quite magical. Highly recommended

This is a fabulous performance by the Wiener Philharmoniker conducted by John Williams. The concert contains a fantastic selection of the composer’s music, from the obvious and most well known to some of his less well known but equally brilliant scores. Quite a fabulous recording too, the acoustic of the Musikverein is captured wonderfully, as is the lyrical and romantic playing of the Wiener Philharmoniker. I also own the Berlin Concert but this is superior technically and musically, so if you want to choose just one I urge you to go for this.

This is an enjoyable Blu Ray concert with superior sound options. It hits the highlights of some of John Williams more familiar film scores, although I would have enjoyed "Hymn to the Fallen" and something from the "Home Alone" movies. Also something from one of the western movies he wrote scores for.

John Williams ist sicher einer der populärsten Komponisten der Neuzeit - auch mit der hierzulande verbreiteten Trennung von "U-Musik" und "E-Musik" kommt man dieser Tatsache nicht vorbei; nun hat der Komponist und erfahrene Dirigent erstmals seine epochalen Soundtracks mit den Wiener Symphonikern eingespielt und das ist ein Meisterwerk der Musikgeschichte geworden; bisher waren bei den Interpretationen von Willams' Werken für mich die Einspielungen von Erich Kunzel mit den Cincinnati Pops (TELARC, "Star Tracks") das Maß der Dinge, was sogar John Williams selbst angeblich mal so bestätigt haben soll - die beiden waren befreundet; dieses Konzert ist nun einer der seltenen Auftritte von Williams in Europa und die noch seltenere Aufführung solcher Musik durch die Wiener Symphoniker; die Wiener Symphoniker spielen alle Stücke auf den Punkt und haben sichtlich Freude daran; der feine, perfekte Klang aller Abteilungen wertet die Kompositionen von Williams weiter auf, auch der "spektakuläre Kinosound" ist den Wiener Symphonikern überzeugend gelungen - man glaubt, man sei "im falschen Film" wenn der Star Wars Main Title startet, aber ein Orchester und nicht "es war einmal in einer...." zu sehen ist; gelegentlich hatten Kunzel/Cincinnati Pops etwas mehr "Punch" bei Ihrer Interpretation und klingen etwas beschwingter, aber wenn der Komponist Williams als Dirigent seine Arrangements mit einem der besten Orchester der Welt einspielt, ist das per se sicherlich die authentischste Darbietung, die man bekommen kann; Ann-Sophie Mutter ist natürlich die perfekte Ergänzung; leider hat diese BluRay ein Startmenü, das von einigen älteren Playern evtl. nicht erkannt wird
