Easy and versatile way to locate the fish
The Garmin Striker Cast does not do everything but what it is designed and advertised to do, it does it well. I wanted something I could use from a kayak and did not require mounting anything, or needing electrical connections. I got this model without GPS mapping since it requires a phone app to use and since I am going to have phone on anyway I can use the GPS map on the phone so no need to spend more. The app was easy to figure out, and the device is activated once it is in the water. The graphics are basic, but you can learn pretty quick how to discern what you are seeing. Importantly you get water temperature and depth information. It's name indicates it is castable and it is. I have used it bank fishing by casting toward areas and it takes some guess work out of whether there might be fish where you think they might be. In the kayak I use the supplied tether line instead of casting. In confines of kayak it is easier not having another rod to deal with. The tether lets you toss it out, or you can tow it along behind. The Garmin Strike Cast is a good value, it will help locate the fish, tell you if water temp is optimum and the depth....if only it would tell you if the fish are biting it would be perfect.

Works like a charm!
I love this tool! So easy to use and pair with my phone. I stillwater fly fish and primarily use it for water temp and depth. This season I’ll experiment with fish marking…

Nice little addition to kayak fishing
I mainly fish in a small river that's relatively shallow but has lots of downed trees. I use a Lifetime Tamarack Pro kayak that I didn't really want to outfit with a full blown fish finder so this castable unit seemed like a great alternative. I hook it to the side of my kayak while I float the river and it does a great job of giving me water depth, underwater vegetation/obstructions and locating fish. Because it's displayed on my phone, it's harder to decipher the size of the fish it is marking.. I also had to google videos to understand some of the setting as the owners manual tells you how to make adjustments but not why to make them. Battery life for my unit has been as advertised, I find no problems with connecting to the unit via Bluetooth and have not lost connection (although I'm within city limits). For my needs this fits the bill perfectly and it's helped me learn the river more quickly.

Just push the button already.
This is one of those, “how did I get along without it” items. If you know the theory behind fish this will absolutely change your game. The topographical mapping isn’t perfect but it’s enough to get you on the edges. It took about 45 minutes to charge from 3/5 bars (as read by the app), and went all day without making a dent in the battery. I’ve heard it really drains the phone battery, while I didn’t pay super close attention I didn’t notice an issue with that. This thing is tiny, palm of your hand tiny, plus it weighs very little so even a smaller rod can cast it easily. I used it to map about 400’ of shore line today, probably 120 feet off the bank and it took me about 10-15 minutes to do, taking my time. The temp sensor is very quick to read, and the image is clean, bearing in mind this isn’t your garmin 93sv, but instead a sub 200 dollar unit that is the size of a kiwi. It’s not going to replace the unit on your bass boat but this absolutely has potential to change the game for shore fisherman. Why are you still reading? Buy it already!!

Coolest purchase ever! (For fishing)
According to my 16 yo fisherman kid this is “the coolest purchase ever” He loves how this creates maps of whatever body of water he is fishing in very clear detail and shows fish (so a great fish finder) He did say that heavy algae cover can make it more difficult to map Its relatively compact The battery life is great It’s very easy to use (just upload app on your phone and cast away) It was pricey but such a fun and beneficial purchase that it is worth the $$

Works great. Use it whenever not fishing out of the boat.
Works great for me. No problems. Finds the fish around the dock and casts a long ways. Accurate water temp and depth. I have a dedicated rod and reel for it with heavy braid. It even has different sized fish on the screen which helps target the big ones.

Neat little device but disappointing App.
Pretty neat little device but the app needs some serious rework... Can't speak for the iOS one, I've only tried the Android one. The puny little sliders to manually adjust the depth and gain are absolutely ridiculous. To fine tune the depth you need to adjust a little slider where a slight movement of about 1-2 mm on the screen makes the depth jump from 3 feet to 20 feet. Ridiculous.... You need a slider for coarse adjustments, then "Up" and "Down" buttons for finer adjustments. Ditto for "gain" settings.... First of all, if "auto gain" and "auto depth" worked like they should, you wouldn't need to play with these tiny sliders to begin with.... GPS position is jumpy and takes a bit of time to eventually stabilize... Quickdraw Contour works pretty good, as long as you have good depth detection and GPS position, of course. Overall rating: Maybe 6 or 7 out of 10. Device itself has potential, but the App itself is baaaaaaaaaad.... I hope they fix it soon! This is pretty neat device to have when jumping from hole to hole looking for fish on the ice.... But the imaging quality will never equal what you get with a 'real' sonar. I have a 73sv UHD2 and I'm spoiled. :)

Great option for a kayak fisherman.
I have this with me every time I go out in the kayak. Well worth it for cheap options compared to a bulky system. For the price it’s well worth it.
