Q: What is the depth from the back to the keyboard when it's lowered?

From the back of the top surface, to the edge of the keyboard closest to the user is approximately 25".

Q: Is it stable to write on top of it?

It is quite stable - I have my 19" Mac on it and I raise and lower it with my Mac on it. I haven't written on it but I think it would be pretty stable. It is well made - I've been happy with it.

Q: Will someone take a photo of the white plastic mechanism underneath? Mine got damaged and I am trying to see how it functions so I can fix it.

Sorry we sold ours. But we also had trouble and had to use Q20 to unstick it

Q: Does the 19" one distribute the weight of the laptop evenly? it seems more sturdy on one side where the legs are criss crossed... i have a macbook air

I had this same suspicion - that it wouldn't work very well, but in actuality, it's of largely metal construction and it supports a lot of weight. And, it's obvious looking at it now, but it wasn't until I used it, that I realized it's using "ironing table' technology. The same method that an ironing table holds up a table is used here - with a slight exception - at it's highest setting, it does have less support on the left side. So, it really depends on the table you use, and how tall you are. In my case, I only put it about 3/4s of the way up, and I've been absolutely stunned at how supportive it is. (The legs flex out to about halfway across the platform). I've tried a bunch of different ways of doing a "stand-up" desk option without replacing my desk (I have way too many monitors to manage) and I've finally found something that works.
