I recently purchased the 40-pack of BIC mechanical pencils, and I’m thoroughly impressed. As a teacher, I go through pencils quickly, and this bulk pack is a lifesaver. Each pencil writes smoothly and consistently, with no annoying lead jams or breakage. The #2 HB lead is perfect for standardized testing and everyday writing, and I love that I don’t have to constantly sharpen like with traditional pencils. I did not know what to expect with regard to the quality, because my experience with BIC's mechanical pencils has run the gamut from great to dismal. But the price was great for the quantity, and it was worth a try. I am happy to be pleasantly surprised. Especially, oddly enough, with the quality of the erasers, which actually erase! (not a given when it comes to disposable mechanical pencils...). Also, the pencils are easy to write with and the graphite doesn't break as easily as I feared it would. Happily used by school kids. I recommend.

I have been buying these for my grandson since he was allowed to use mechanical pencils in school. This is by far his favorite type and brand. He's now in 7th grade and this is all he uses. His friends all ask to 'borrow' his pencils because they really like the ease of the pencils, the fit in their hands, and that the erasers do not dry out. When they go to erase, the eraser works well and there is no smearing or smudging. The look of the writing is nice. I will continue to buy these, they are a good value in my eyes.

These pencils are pretty awesome. Super smooth and writes nice and dark. I write with a bit of pressure and the lead doesn’t break. The colors are also super pretty. Price is great for the amount of pencils you get.

Exactly what I needed. The eraser does erase cleanly and without any smudges or stray marks. The lead is perfect for writing small print math problems on college-ruled paper. Here is my lead breakdown: 0.3 mm - Perfect for writing as small as possible on note cards or note sheets for exams (cram as much information as possible on the permitted note medium). Difficulty: this thin diameter lead breaks with minimal pressure. I go through a lot of lead when writing exam note cards so this diameter is not recommended for regular use. This was a common size for engineering/drafting years ago. 0.5 mm - The lead size in this product. PERFECT for someone with decent hand pressure control or someone who has plenty of extra lead on hand. The pencil writes fine while still being sturdy enough for my creaky hand. 0.7 mm - Sturdy, but writes very mushy. Fine for writing words and doodling and probably acceptable for higher-level math on wide-ruled paper but gets a little "squishy" fitting equations on one line of college-ruled. I find myself frequently rotating the pencil or even intentionally breaking lead to try and find a sharper edge. 0.9 mm - Perhaps fine (and even preferred) for younger students but 0.7 mm is bad enough for higher-level math that I'd never use this lead. I've included a photo that compares the 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, and 0.7 mm pencil leads (I do not own a 0.9 mm pencil) on standard college-ruled paper. The 0.5 mm example demonstrates a pencil from this set. The comparison should be enough to determine which thickness is right for you. I also erased and rewrote one of the numbers on this example, using the eraser of this particular product. As you can see, it erases very cleanly. See if you can guess what was erased! Long story short: Excellent pencils with fine lead and quality erasers for CHEAP!

I bought these for my American Heritage Girls unit to use during troop meetings. It was a good value, and the pencils work well. They write smoothly and are easy for the girls (ages 5-9) to grip and use. I like that they come in multiple colors so that the girls can choose which color they want. They seem to be durable and should last us for a few years.
