Great for Marquasitas, despite initial looks
I spent 2 weeks in the Yucatán peninsula and when I got home I wanted to create marquasitas for my friends. When I got it, I won’t lie, I was prepared not to like it. It was wrapped in plastic wrap, you can see light in the crack between the plates when it’s closed, the handles are way shorter than I expected (despite measurements), the handles didn’t meet, the hinge was stiff so that it stays open at any angle you put it. BUT! It works great! This will make small ones (8” dia) so you’ll end up with about 4 per person, and that’s a great way to switch up the fillings. Use over open flame/gas burner, like they do in MX, I wouldn’t try it on an electric stove or induction. You have to heat both sides so flip often to keep it evenly warm. I used a hose clamp on the ends (like they do in MX) to keep it closed tight enough and leave my hands free to slice bananas, etc.. It makes lovely, thin wafers. It cleans up with just a swipe of a dry paper towel, even if you get salted caramel in it or burn your first wafer to a deep, black char when figuring out the heat/time. So easy to use, it’s great! I’d say about 1/8C of batter, and about 30 seconds per side to start. Heat down on Med/low. If you blast it, you’ll get a black, charred disk. Ask me how I know. ;)

Works great! Love it!
I followed a recipe online and used this wafer press. I still have to work on my skills of putting the correct amount of batter and the speed and strength of pressing the top and bottom together. This is an excellent wafer press. I prefer the grid pattern this one has vs others out there. I highly recommend this specific one.

Sturdy
I ordered this with big dreams of making Stroopwafle cookies. Oh, boy... what a lot of work! lol It's going to take some practice for me to get the waffles to cook evenly and perfectly. This cookie press would be good for making dessert bowls by draping hot cookies over an upturned bowl or tucking them into muffin cups. You must work quickly, though. The cookies firm up really fast once they're off the heat. This iron would also make ice cream waffle cones IF you have a cone shape. I don't have one. Yet. If you like to try new kitchen gadgets and you have plenty of patience, this would make a nice addition to your kitchen appliances. I'm enjoying playing around with it.

Griddle works great for making Marquesita’s and cones. Nice size and easy to clean also.

Doesn't press uniformly
It does make waffles, and with the right recipe they can be very delicious. However, they way it is built makes getting uniform cooking extremely complicated. It presses way more on the hinge side, the waffle overcooks on that side and undercooks on the handle side. You can rotate the waffle 180 degrees half way through, but that's an additional unnecessary step, if it was only built better.

Great product!
Exactly what I was looking for! Not too small or not too big. Thank you!
