don't believe the advertised 10 lbs. Was shocked to see the size of the package so I put it on a digital scale. Came in at 7.6 lbs, nearly 25% less than it is supposed to be. never again.

I will never buy another fire starter log again!
I moved back to the mountains in October. One of the first things I did was to purchase a cord of wood. When I attempted to burn the wood however I realized it was not seasoned, which made it very difficult to burn. I began using the commercial logs made for fireplace burning, to start my fires. However this became very expensive. I noticed the Fat wood at the local store and tried them, which worked out well. When I ran out, I decided to check and see if I could purchase on Amazon and lo and behold of course I could! I purchased the plow and hearth brand based on the reviews and I felt like the logo looked down to earth and homey. The package arrived yesterday which was very quick considering our massive snowfall here in Tahoe. I started a fire immediately and I was shocked to see how quickly this product was able to light the unseasoned wood. I have been struggling for hours to keep my fire going even with a commercial fire starter log. But no more! I started the fire with two of the resin sticks and my fire burned hot and furious for hours! I highly recommend this product for anyone who plans to enjoy a winter of sitting by the fire.

P&H is the king of fatwoods
It's a little early for fireplace this year, but I did use these a couple times to start charcoal grill fires. They burn fast & get the charcoal started without the stink of lighter fluid or the wafting ashes of newspaper. I figured the resin would burn off before embedding any scent in the charcoal to flavor the food, and I was right. As for the fireplace, I've used mostly Plow & Hearth fatwood for years, except for last year when another brand was substantially less expensive & worked as well. This year, however, P&H was less expensive so I came back to the fold. Just as parmigiano is the king of cheeses, P&H is the king of fatwoods.

these sticks are definitely thicker than the alternative
in reading other reviews, the ones i was buying before had some reviewers claiming they were too thin, so i was curious to try these. It never bothered me that the others were too thin and irregular (some were thick some were thin). This brand is all thick long lasting sticks. But I never had an issue with the other ones so I'm not sure if I'd pay more for these than the other ones. Moreover, I'm not sure I need more burn time to get my fire going, so maybe the thinner ones are better for me as the box will last longer?

These are awesome, one stick (or less) can definitely keep a fire going without tons of attention.* shredding them using knife/blade if your careful the pieces make great kindling and uses less than a stick per fire. Will Re buy, but our last box is still going.*appreciate the lack of toxic chemicals (ones at the store have warning labels that make you avoid them)

They do burn fast, but are not the best for lighting fires
These are a very dirty burn, and don't burn long enough to light damp wood. In the crazy storms we've had this year, all our wood was damp though well seasoned. It took at least 6 sticks to get our fires going. We prefer the If You Care Firelighters. We've never had to use more than 3 Firelighters even on damp wood, and they don't turn the glass of our wood stove black with soot.

It does get the fire started quickly with as little as two pieces by whittling little pieces off of a piece so it looks like a C
I grew up in an area of the south where "Lighter Wood" or "Fat Wood" was plentiful and was always gathered when found to start our cooking and heating fires with. This box of Hounduran "Fat Wood" is close but not the same. It does get the fire started quickly with as little as two pieces by whittling little pieces off of a piece so it looks like a Christmas Tree. Love the smell.

Happy with the overall product
Happy with the overall product. They are dry, light quickly, do have a piney resiney smell but shouldn't be a problem if your fireplace is venting like normal (properly). They aren't "instant" light with a tiny spark so if you were in high winds I could see it being a problem getting these lit.
