Yamaha KP100 Electronic Drum Coated Kick Tower

I’ve been using the KP90 that came with my Yamaha kit for a while, and it definitely gets the job done—but the rubber pad always felt a little different compared to the mesh on my toms and snare. I wanted the kick to feel more “matched” to the rest of the kit, so I tried the Yamaha KP100 with the mesh head. Right away, the feel was the biggest difference. The mesh has a more natural rebound and just feels smoother underfoot, especially for faster playing. Do you need to "upgrade" from the KP90? Probably not. But if you’re picky about feel like I am, it’s a really nice improvement. The other big win for me is how much easier it is to set up a double pedal. With the KP90, I always had to line the beaters up in a very specific spot to make everything hit clean. The KP100’s bigger head gives you more room to work with, so dialing in double pedals is way less annoying and feels more consistent. It’s slightly larger overall, but it still fits perfectly under my rack with no issues, and it feels solid and stable once it’s in place. If you play double bass or just want a kick pad that feels more like the rest of your mesh kit, this is a great kick tower.

I’ve played Roland digital drums for 20 years, and used various bass drum pads in that time from rubber (TD-7) to mesh head (V Drums), and this Yamaha digital bass drum beats all of them hands-down. I use a double pedal on my KP 100, and the responsiveness is great. Definitely worth the price.

I am a big fan of the Yamaha electronic drums. I used it to replace a smaller and noisy drum (loud with the pedal sounds not with the drum sounds). The one negative is that I wish it was a little less money, however, if I was buying the Roland then I would have paid as much or more. One feature that I really like is the extra input that lets me connect an extra cymbal.

This review is for the KP100 KP100 fixes all of the issues I had with the KP125W (noted below): I honestly can't believe how silent this thing is. To give you an idea, it sounds just about as noisy as (strongly) hitting any of the DTX pads I have (DTX XP100T and DTX XP100SD). Though I'd still strongly recommend having a rubber mat below it, specially if you have neighbors downstairs, as constantly stomping on the pedal still create a lot of vibrations that they can hear. I had a KP125W and, while it wasn't very noisy, it still created enough noise in the lower-range to make my neighbors let me know that they did not appreciate me playing rock band. I had to put some noise-canceling foam all over it in an effor to reduce the noise, but that also made the bounce back a lot less effective (because the hammer was hitting the foam). I don't need to do any of that with the KP100!
