It’s advertised as being from “Legacy Motorsports, a family owned business based in the USA.” There’s no country of origin stamped on the one I have. The switch is very sturdy & well made. I use it on my lawn tractor so it gets a lot of outdoor time in sometimes dusty or wet conditions. It works perfectly.

Is there such a thing as a switch like this that is always on and you have to lift the safety cover and flip the switch to turn an accessory off?

If you can turn the switch upside down and keep the cover in its regular position that will do it. It will be on when it's down and off when it's up.

will this screw into a standard exterior cover plate with 1/2" threaded hole?

We would recommend drilling the threaded hole to 1/2" and installing the switch through the hole. The attachment nuts on the switch can be tightened such that the switch won't rotate after installation.
