Sanchin Kata: Three Battles Karate Kata

Excellent
I found this video to be most helpful. The attention to detail the author presents in demonstrating the kata was top notch. If you are a practitioner of Goju Ryu or Shito Ryu, I highly recommend you get this DVD. It has improved not only my sanshin kata, but others as well. I only hope they produce more DVDs of this quality.

Definitely worth Buying!
Obviously different videos from different Master's vary. This DVD was very intuitive, well thought out, and organized. The Material was excellent; and the formant made it very easy to digest. You can go back and select the specific areas that you want to review, and or work on. It should definitely be a part of any Classical Karate Practitioner's library. At this point I buy everything this Author produces.

... on Sanchin is essential if you have read his great book on the subject
Sensei Wilder's DVD on Sanchin is essential if you have read his great book on the subject. His work has opened up this often misunderstood Kata to those who want to learn and understand. He truly brings to life the saying that Karate begins and ends with Sanchin.

an excellent instructional DVD
I really like this video. it's definitely the most technical kata video that I've ever watched and makes some very interesting points about generating power in Goju Ryu. I found the video to be very insightful and an excellent addition to my karate library.

Breathing technique is missing, among other things
The good: Kris Wilder discusses thoroughly the positioning of the whole bodyThe missing:(1) Breathing technique: How to enlarge your belly while breathing, how to imagine the Qi flow while breathing. This is of course THE most important aspects of Sanchin.(2) Muscle tension and how to test it.(3) What to expect from your Sanchin, when you are practicing/have practiced it: blood pressure, sweat, warmth, fatique,...(4) How does Sanchin help a practitioner of Goju Ryu.(5) What Sanchin is not: no extra holding of breath, no valsalva maneuver, ...(6) Showing at least the upper body while doing Sanchin, to see which muscles are used.(7) How to avoid "incorrect ways of doing Sanchin that could harm your health".The main reason why this video does not live up to its title: "Three battles Karate Kata" is that:(a) Kris Wilder knows only the Sanchin of Shorei-Shobukan Karate, but in this video he claims to discuss "The Sanchin" kata (i.e. of different Karate styles, he even mentions some Chinese quanfa styles ). Actually Sanchin differs between styles (evidence?, type "comparitive karate san chiem" on Youtube) and it is hard to discuss what are different, what are common among them.(b) Kris Wilder has the tendency to use too many words to convey little amount of information. His two books (The way of kata, the way of Sanchin kata) and this video show that.

The dvd was informative and gave new insights into performance of the form. Some additional demonstration of the applications would have been helpful.
