Only Hold the Phone Well In Landscape Position
I plugged this in, synched to bluetooth right away, no problem there. Hurray!! However, before I was able to find empty stations on the radio and the transmitter (this would not go down low enough for the station I use with my current transmitter) it went dead, never to fire back up. I figured I just got a dud, these things happen with electronics, and I would just return for a replacement, but on further examination I decided to get a refund. My main complaint is this can really not be used in a portrait orientation, only landscape, and that's not really what i was after. I like to have it upright so i can one hand type, or scroll through texts or my Twitter feed while I sit in traffic, and when I tried to put this in portrait position it just slowly slumped back to landscape. I have an iPhone 4 in an extended battery case, so I don't think it was super heavy, but it just wouldn't stay upright. If you are seeking a landscape holder, this appears to be awesome (if you can get power to it :) ) So not what I needed, but if you are looking to use this for GPS use or something, probably perfect.

Very well done
I have had this device for about 2 months now. I mostly drive 30 minutes each way to and from work, and I also took this unit on a 1300 mile (round trip) vacation drive.I have an I-Phone 4. I bought several of the cheap stereo transmitters that plug into the bottom of the I-Phone, but after a short time the connection to the phone became loose, and if you turn a corner, your signal gets interrupted, and after a while it would no longer charge my phone, and because it clogged the docking port, I just had to stop listening for a while once my battery died - which was a surprisingly short time, as I was streaming internet radio! This device is a significant improvement.Out of the box, this had a very small instruction booklet, which I recommend that you read all the way through because there are a couple of hidden features - the MAIN one is the twist collar on the cigarette lighter plug. Insert this device into the lighter, twist the locking collar until it is tight, then you can carry the car around with you. That collar is so tight that it becomes what feels like a permanent piece of the car. It does not jiggle and there is no way it will unplug. This is the best connection I've ever seen.Bluetooth connection is straight forward. Power up the device, turn on your Phone's bluetooth, select the IFM-500 from the list, and it connects. Done. The FM radio selection is pretty intuitive also. there is a little knob on this device. Press it, the radio station indicator blinks, turn the knob, and adjust to the station you desire. If you dont know of a blank station, HOLD the knob in, and it will instantly find a blank one for you. One note - this device searches every 0.1Mhz, and my car radio will only tune to ODD NUMBERED stations - for instance, the device can tune to 88.2, but my car can only tune to 88.1 and 88.3.This is not the slightest bit inconvienient, but I thought I should mention it.Once you have established the blue tooth connection, and set the car radio station, you are in for a treat. This little sucker does an incredible job with the sound. When it is not sending music, the radio is ABSOLUTELY silent. No hiss... No Static... you could hear a mouse fart.... When it IS making sound, it is crisp and crystal clear. Ive had other transmitters that make all the "S"es sound like static. You have to REALLY Tang a high-hat to get any hiss out of this baby, and Im not sure the high-hat dont have a little static sound to it anyhow. Additionally, in my very old car, when I turn on the re-window defroster, I will loose any local radio station in static. That does NOT happen with this device... I continue to get a nice clear sound, AND can see out of my back window! I dont know how much power this lil' thang is pushing on the FM signal transmission, but it is certianly more than the local radio stations. The Green Phone button acts as a play/pause button for I-Pod music as well as for streaming radio. There are 2 blue buttons on the IFM-500 that will allow skip and rewind on I-pod music as well as streaming radio also. Very convienient. Also, the audio in on the IFM500 allows a non-bluetooth device to play over the car stereo. My son's I-pod could never play in my old car until now. Im not sure if Im happy about this or not :sI have had one or two instances when the bluetooth did not connect by itself, which were quickly resolved by pressing the green phone button ONCE. The phone immediately connected in those instances.Another good feature is if you HOLD the green phone button for 2 seconds the "Voice Commands" screen comes up on the phone and you hear a special beeping noise, and I can voice dial (I dont have Siri, but this works just fine). As other reviews have stated, you need to turn the radio up a bit for phone calls, but my call-ees have all said they can not tell Im using a speaker phone. One note though.. when my girlfriend gets on a talking spree, it is difficult to get the phone to interrupt her... I try speaking loudly, but the sound of her talking seems to disable the microphone so getting her to realize that I might want to contribute something to the conversation is sometimes daunting.... or maybe she is ignoring my request to speak... Im not sure....Another note on the speed of connection... I have occasionally been driving along listening to a local radion station with the IFM-500 completely turned off, and I get a phone call... I have pressed the power button on the IFM-500, changed the radio station, Bluetooth-synced the phone, and pressed the green phone button and answered the call BEFORE it transferred to voice mail.... I am highly impressed with that.Often in the mornings, I walk out to my car with my phone in my belt-clip. I get into the car and press the button on the IFM-500 to power it up, since the cigarette lighter in my car is always powered. The power switch ont he IFM-500 prevents any possible dis-charge of the car battery, and also darkens it so it is harder to see by a theif while I am inside a store. Many cigarette lighters turn off with the car key, but this was a nice protection for those of us that have always-on lighters. As I was saying, in the morning, I get in my car and power on this device. It connects within literally 2 seconds. I press the green phone button, and the most recent music OR streaming radio starts playing right away. I drive to the local convienience store for coffee most mornings... I press the green phone buttonto pause the music, and since my phone is still on my belt, I just walk in and get my coffee with no hassel of wires to deal with. When I return to the car, I press the green phone button again (It has already re-connected bluetooth before I get to the car), and I am on my way again.** Note - if you dont pause the music, when you get out of range of the bluetooth, my I-Phone switches to its own speaker which can be quite embarassing if you happen to be playing Taylor Swift or Justin Beiber at the time :)I was a little apprehensive about the phone holder, and none of the reviews seemed to describe it to my liking, so I will.If you look at the picture, there is a bracket at the TOP of the Phone. This bracket is spring loaded, and the entire cradle is covered with a layer of 1/8" rubberized foam. It takes two hands for me to put my phone in this bracket. With no phone mounted, this bracked is about 1/2" smaller than the width of my I-Phone4. An I-Pod touch will also fit in this bracket, but nothing much smaller than that... To put the phone in, I hold the IFM-500 with one hand, set the top endge of the phone on that top bracket, and press the phone in place - moving that top bracket about 1/2" more open. Then I let go. Everything is solid. Nothing will slide and the rubberized foam contorts to the shape of my phone, holding it securly. The unit can then be rotated, or the gooseneck manipulated into any orientation. The Cigarette lighter is LOCKED in place, and the gooseneck is pleanty strong enough to hold the phone right where you want it. Bumps will not dis-lodge it or move it. Ive never even considered the possibility that the phone might fall out. It is very secure.Sometimes I need power to re-charge my phone, especially after streaming music all day. When needed I make use of the USB power outlet. Used with a standard I-Phone cord, this is very sufficent to re-charge my battery. Also, on my long vacation trip, I went in my girlfriend's car. The IFM-500 transferred to her car effortlessly. A few hundred miles into the trip, I encountered static on the radio from a local station, so I used the included audio cable to connect to the Audio-in on her car, and never had noise problems for the rest of the trip.In summary, I am quite happy with this unit, and it was well worth the $50 to me.

Great product until it suddenly quit on me
I got the Incredisonic IFM-500 about two weeks ago. At first it worked great! I was used to crappy Belkin products and this was just what I needed to mount my iPod touch and play it through my car speakers (I didn't purchase it for the hands-free phone function so I can't say how well that works). The sound was loud and clear and the signal was much stronger than I'd ever experienced before. My iPod always remembered the bluetooth frequency and would start playing as soon as I turned the car on. The only downside of the device was that the frequency finder would often tune to an "even" radio station like 101.0, and my car radio can't tune to those stations. Still, this Incredisonic was way better than anything I had used before. I thought I had found the solution to my car/iPod woes. Then, on a long car ride, the radio tuner section of the player would suddenly go blank. The power button was still lit, so something was going wrong between the tuner and the power button. It worked sporadically for awhile and I even tried a factory reset, but now the power button is the only thing that comes on. I've tried other devices in my cigarette lighter outlet and they all work, so it's not my car, it's something between the power button and the tuner on the IFM-500. Two weeks after my purchase and it has completely stopped working. I'm very disappointed because it worked perfectly while it was still working. I'm hoping I just got a lemon and I've contacted the company, but I'm not sure when or if I'll ever hear from them. I would simply buy another, but I'm afraid of getting another lemon. Time to try yet another gadget. So there goes another $50!
