very compact, and does NOT block the top of new york plates! which is very important! plenty of wire left after wiring up for a crossover suv. the image quality sucks but its just enough so you can identify what is behind you, which is the only thing you really need. when you hook up the camera to that tiny little connector you have to make sure it goes in all the way. It has to click into place twice, one soft click and one distinct one. and dont forget to tighten up the screws when your done adjusting the angle.

I installed this in a 2008 VW Jetta sedan. Barely had enough cable length to make it to the back of my BOSS BV900ACP head unit in the dash. The power leads are smaller than 22 AWG (more like 24) so they are easy nick if you're not careful. The mounting frame goes behind the license plate which is nice, but as you can see in my picture the camera is still blocking some of the State lettering. Hopefully I won't get pulled over for this. The video quality is just okay for a backup camera at this price point. Unsure about reliability or longevity but hopefully I won't have to install another one anytime soon!

Bought for our older pickup that didn't have backup camera but we pull trailers with all the time. Works great. Easy to install. Color and camera good quality.

If you are looking for a license plate rearview camera, the BOSS is the boss. Camera comes with a separate RCA/power cable to make it easier to install. Documentation is pretty good for such a small item. License plate bracket installation allows you to install it in the center of your car without having to worry about drilling mounting holes and lining it up. Field of vision is good and night vision is good. You can get a backup camera for less, but the no name cameras are very hit or miss. The BOSS just does what it's supposed to do.

2005 Toyota Matrix. Hatchback install made this install a little bit tricky. Wired for reverse use only. Lesson learned. When fishing wire through used electrical tape to protect the RCA cable. Thought it might be a grounding issue. After a rewire to direct power and several grounding points later still no RCA signal but confirmed power via the camera lights. Investigated further to find tape residue on RCA male plug. Cleaned really well and all was good. Rewired back to reverse only and good to go so far. Haven't tested it ar night.

I bought this backup camera since I had recently installed a BOSS headunit in my car - making my factory backup camera unusable. It took numerous YouTube videos to even figure out how to install this thing. Even then, I still can't get it to automatically switch to the camera when I go to reverse. This is definitely a user-error thing, but could have been mitigated if they actually provided instructions in the box. All we got was a wiring diagram which is useless for a DIY beginner. The camera quality itself is also horrible. Looks cartoony even during the day on my 9" BOSS unit. I even made sure there wasn't any film/plastic on the camera I forgot to take off. Terrible value, can't return it since I already spliced all the wires and spent too long installing

3.5 stars. Package came quickly, instructions were a little weird. There are 3 loops of wire that you can cut to “change” a couple settings. Maybe add these changes into the trouble shooting table for easy reference. They are located in another section explaining what the loops are. Either way it works fine. Camera functions. I cut the green loop because my head unit does not support the 720p. So 480p will do just fine for me. Negative: Cannot get the led’s to light up at all. Nothing in the instructions to trouble shoot that either. We’ll see how it does with just my reverse lights but not hopeful. At this price point it functions well, for now.
