and is of good sturdy construction
Works as it needs to. Costs less than most of the ones I've found locally, and is of good sturdy construction. Great for pulling engines and lifting heavy equipment.

APPEARS STURDY, BUT LACKING HARDWARE
When I first saw this load leveler rated for 2 tons, I was a bit skeptical. Some of that is justified. I have just received this and have yet to use it, so no real weight test yet. Still, I have an ACDelco 1200 lb load leveler, and this one is certainly beefier (thicker steel and more of it) throughout the main frame portion than the ACDelco. The welds look decent. Where this leveler lacks, is the associated hardware. It truly is as the picture shows; i.e., it does not come with brackets at the end of the chains for adapting and connection to an engine or load. If you look at competing levelers, they do come with such hardware, but are rated for less (typically 1500 lbs or less). It comes with two chains. Each chain is meant to be placed throuh a hole with a notch that wedges the chain in place at the middle link. So just one chain per side. I have my doubts that each chain can support 1 ton each, since the middle link will be splitting the load. I intend to upgrade the hardware, as this is a cheap unit so not a large total expense to do so. The shackle at the top is 7/16" and is labeled with a WLL of 1.5 tons (Working Load Limit). The main frame is labeled with a sticker of 4000 lbs capacity. So the shackle is only rated for 3000 lbs, while the leveler itself is rated for 4000 lbs. I will upgrade the shackle, chains and obtain some brackets with known Working Load Ratings for peace of mind. Anyways, my engine is no where near this weight, and few others will encounter this either. But if attempting to lift a heavier load with this leveler, one should be aware of these factors, and know that you will need to buy some stronger hardware. With these cheaper load levelers and engine hoists on the market, I'll remain skeptical of their max ratings until I actually lift max loads with them. To that extent, my review is lacking. Lastly, mine came without the DragwayTools.com label. It is just solid red paint surface except the capacity rating sticker. Since I thought the DragwayTools.com label was kind of goofy, I'm happy it wasn't there.

Works Well, Priced Well
This tool worked very well for removing the engine from my late 90's Honda Accord and is priced well. It allows you to shift the weight easily, if necessary, to angle the engine to get it out and is priced well.

Great for 1000 lbs, would never consider lifting 4000
The tool itself seems to be of pretty good quality, the welds look alright and i had no problem using it to level out a 383ci V8, with automatic transmission attached (i estimate it probably weighs around 800 lbs, as a package.) However the chains that come with it are a joke, i literally broke both of them, with a small slide hammer, when i tried to use the chains to pull dents out of my fender (i had already replaced the chains on the hoist with something a little bit bigger and stronger.) I'm pretty sure if you ever tried to lift 4000 lb with this hoist you would break the chains before it ever got off the ground. The shackle that comes with it is also a very poorly made piece of junk, the hole that the pin goes through isn't centered, leaving very thin metal on one side of the hole. the shackle is clearly stamped ".93T" meaning .93 tons, or 1,860 lbs.Bottom line, i would probably trust this to lift 1,000 lbs, but would never trust this to lift 4000.

My son bought this through me. He is Ok with it. It meets to what he has to use it for. As for me in giving a report, I cannot. This is a guy thing!

UNSAFE and weight capacity dangerously over rated.
It worked once when taking my engine out of my truck...the literally started falling apart when putting it back in WITH the engine hanging in the air over the engine bay! I wouldnt buy this if i were you because it couldnt handle a 500 lb hemi it CERTAINLY wont handle 4000 lbs as advertised and is tptally umsafe for use. If i could give 0 stars i would and if i cpuld get a refumd for this defectove piece of junk i would ask for that as well.

Real happy
Does a great job on SBC 350 for sure. Also used it to lift the front clip off my 1940 Studebaker Commander. Well made

Great price
Great price. I couldn't get the materials to build one this cheap. Be prepared to do some modifications on it right out of the box though. Simply back the nut off one turn and weld the nut to the HANDLE, then drill a 1/4 inch hole through the nut and threaded rod then insert a roll pin or other suitable pin, dowel or nut-bolt combination. The reason I would not weld the nut to the rod is for future disassembly purposes. Git-r-done.
