Play Japanese games on your US N64!
This is a converter. You plug it into your North America based N64, then plug in a Japanese game, and it will allow you to play it. It works great, and since I can get quite a few Japanese games at much lower prices, it's economical too. If you have a have that requires lots of reading though, you might want to skip this because Japanese games are, of course, in Japanese. But if you're in it only for the gameplay, it's great! I love mine and it works well

Works, Reviews Accurate
Did the job for a Japanese Mario tennis to an American system! I think it does clamp down rather hard but we are just careful when changing out the cartridge out of the adaptor (which is not often)

Typical Hyperkin junk
This is my last time getting anything Hyperkin. This adapter was defective out of the box. It would not work with any of my n64 carts, import or domestic. This should be a really simple pass though, I just didn't want to open up and mod the cart slot on my main n64. I should have know with Hyperkin's commitment to cheaping out what I was in for. The plastic on this feels thin and it features that death grip Hyperkin cart slot, so DO NOT USE with pricey or rare games as this will cause damage to your cart pins over time. I have really not liked their retron 5 or any of their cables, and this was the last change. If you can't make something as simple as a pass though cart that is only there to get around the shape of the n64 cart slot how can I trust anything more complicated than that.

Functional for at least US-Japan compatibility, but grabs cartridges way too hard...
This passthrough adapter works great for playing my Japanese N64 games on my American N64 system, and I'm sure it would work great for playing American games on a Japanese system. There is no software region lock between US and Japan, so this is an easy test. But I have not tested PAL compatibility. I used to use a Gameshark cheat device from the 1990's, but those were cheaply made, fragile, have no support at the top (so the cartridge could wobble, or stress the Gameshark PCB since not much is supporting its weight), and required masterkey codes for different games, creating a hassle with constantly needing to swap cartridges every time I just want to start a game of Japanese Super Smash Bros. This device is more compact, feels more robust, and does more to support the weight of the inserted cartridge. There's also no need for masterkey stuff like a cheat device would need - it's just plug and play. Games that use the Expansion Pak (i.e. Perfect Dark) can still access it just fine. It would be a slam dunk, but unfortunately there is one issue: it puts an unreal deathgrip on whatever cartridge is inserted. I play and collect a lot of retro games. I've inserted unlicensed Wisdom Tree games with fattened or non-beveled PCBs into my Sega Genesis. I've played a ton of NES games on a cheap $20 clone console from 2010 that was known for the grip it puts on games, and the effort it takes to get games out. But I have never, ever seen anything quite this bad. Every time I want to put a different foreign game in the converter, I need to take the converter out (it grabs the games waaaaaay harder than the console grabs it, by a long shot) and use considerable strength to separate the cartridge from the converter. Maybe it's a matter of "breaking it in" and I need to use it more, but I'm a little worried that repeated use with a small number of foreign games will wind up scratching their pins worse than any authentic console cartridge slot would.

Works great!
My husband accidentally purchased a Japanese N64 and US games. They're region restricted, so they are not compatible. This adapter allows us to use both together without permanently modifying anything. We are so happy!

Does not work in a PAL to play NTSC games.

When I search the net all I see is that it's compatible with Japanese games, nowhere does it have information on playing USA games, I'm getting no signal when I try and play a USA game on a PAL version N64, if anyone knows the reason why or can help in anyway, let me know and I will change my rating
