Functional cane, also a work of art.
I waited to review this until after I had used it some to give a better review based in experience. I am a disabled young adult who has struggled with the idea of using a cane because of vanity and pride. But this cane is not an old lady's cane. It is a beautiful work of art, very stylish, and suitable for young and old alike. I have received many compliments about it and have recommended Asterom Handmade to many people. Aside from the beauty of this walking stick it is perfectly functionally, too. It is very sturdy. I weigh a little over 400 lbs and it supports me with ease. It is solid wood. Hollow, metal canes will bounce if dropped gently onto the base. This cane does not bounce. It is solid. It came in three pieces which were incredibly easy to assemble. The top piece with the handle screwed easily into the bottom piece and a beautiful silver ring, which I think is more for decoration, sits between these two pieces. I have issues with my wrists that make some tasks difficult for me, but I assembled my cane with ease and no tools were required. It also came with two rubber pieces that fit on the bottom of the cane, which I also assembled easily. As if all of this wasn't great enough, I was pleasantly surprised when someone from Asterom Handmade reached out to me checking if the cane was working well for me. These are people who care. They put their hearts into creating quality and will take the extra step of ensuring their customers are happy. I will continue recommending Asterom Handmade to anyone in need and I will come back to them if I ever need another high quality walking stick.

I am very impressed!
This walking stick is a genuinely solid single piece of wood and nicely finished. It is both better balanced and lighter than I expected. There is no bounce, no slip and no flex to the Nutcracker. I wouldn't call it a combat cane, but it will do in a pinch. I first considered the lanyard decorative, but it's incredibly helpful once you get the technique of using the round grip. If you have issues with your hand grip, as I do, this is much more comfortable than a standard cane handle, and I find it easier to walk with. Absolutely worth the price.

Solidly practical art handmade in Ukraine
I wanted a solid one piece hard wood walking stick with a ball handle. This handmade beauty surpassed my expectations: has a very nice balance and feels very stout yet surprisingly lightweight. I immediately purchased a second cane from Asterom, with in my case the carved wood raven skull handle, so as to be able to interchange future handles. I am proud to own these pieces of Ukrainian artisanship.

A beast of a walking stick!
I just received this and wow! The craftsmanship and hand work on this walking stick is outstanding. The name of this stick "The Nutcracker" is perfect for this. It has a good overall heft to it but it's not too heavy really. Comes with a nice wrist strap, an extra rubber pad for the working end of it and the finish is perfect. If needed in a close encounter of the worst kind this could crack a couple of walnuts and leave them limping. I kept looking at the Asterom canes and was on the fence about the price but it's worth every penny. Knowing these are hand turned on a lathe and finished/stained that way also makes it a solid purchase.

A pretty nice piece of wood.
Appears to be a nice looking and well crafted piece of wood. A little long for someone 5’ 9” tall, so I will take about an inch off the bottom. Also, there is a seam on the top of the stick. It is probably just the top half of the knob on top, but calling it “one solid piece of oak” is a bit misleading. Definitely not a game changer. The price seems somewhat steep for this item, but knowing the source, and if any of the proceeds go toward Ukrainian freedom, then any extra contribution I can make is agreeable.

Excellent Ukrainian Craftsmanship, Better Than Advertised
To say I was pleased with the cane wood be an understatement. (See what I did there?) Excellent quality, and the bolt for joining the two parts is long and strong. Wood is blemish-free and both parts are consistently stained. The joinery ring is a beautiful touch, with the manufacturer's family name and "handmade" inscribed. Came with an extra foot. In general, it is even better than described on this site. There's a lot of discussion in this product's Q&A about trimming the cane shorter, and whether it's advisable while the cane is slightly tapered. The concern is that the trimmed end would then be too wide for the foot. So I did some measurements, using a caliper, for your edification: the main body/shaft is exactly 28" long. At that end, the diameter is 23mm. Trimmed 2cm shorter, it'd be at 23.3mm. At 4cm, it's 23.6mm. At 6cm, it's 23.9 mm. At 8cm, it's 24.0mm. and at 10cm, it's 24.1cm. I can't say whether these dimensions are typical, or whether they are consistent across all the canes. I am still going to trim my cane, since the taper is so minor. If the foot doesn't fit on the new end, I'll cut some small expansion slots into it to give it a little extra room for siding on. We'll see how it works. FOLLOW-UP EDIT: After measuring it to fit me, I chopped off 1 11/16" (43mm) and beveled the tip. The rubber foot was definitely tighter than before (due to the stick's taper) but went on without much effort. So it works, at least up to these measurements.

A strong and stout stick for sure!
Fantastic walking stick. I was looking for a solid wood walking stick/cane where the handle cannot break off. This is a beautifully crafted piece. It not only provides me with support for my arthritic hips, it is also an excellent self defense tool. A blow from this cane will be remembered! F around and find out, lol. I also love the fact that I am able to get what I want and need while doing a tiny part to help support Ukraine in their valiant fight for freedom and independence. I only wish our current government could remember that this is what we used to stand for and hold dear. At least I have a stout piece of oak to defend myself when the idiots come for me.
