Very helpful!
This is a great book to have if your just starting to chainsaw carve! It drastically helped me carve my 1st two bears and has a bunch of tips and tricks along with the step by step diagrams of how to do so! I would recommend it for anyone that's just starting out!

It is a gift for my 21-year-old grandson who took a course in chain sawing at Penn State
I thought the book gave very nice step-by-step directions. My grandson is very artistic and I think he will enjoy this project.

good step by step guide
excellent place to start. Not all steps are super clear, but if you make a couple bears you get the idea pretty quick. don't forget YOU are the artist, this book helps point the way, but you can walk your own path.

Great Book For Learning Bares, I mean Bears
This book makes you believe you can actually carve a bear (out of wood). It's one of three I purchased and believe it's well worth the money. I'm afraid my bear will turn out looking like a lamb but who knows? Ordering a dime tip carving saw in a few weeks to get started practicing! I'll update this review, with pictures, in the future once I tackle the intended project.

Great book
After watching YouTube videos with ill-mounted cameras, or sped up to where you can't get a good look, I found this book and bought it. It is heavily illustrated with good pictures and explanations step by step. I found it very clear. One other bonus: the paper of the pages is coated, so you can work with the book open next to you without it getting stained with chain oil spatters and oily sawdust.

Nothing beyond carving process
This book has lots of information and photos about the actual carving process of three different bears. However, that's about ALL this book contains. It contains NO information or pictures on:*How to find and select logs*Additional bear poses beyond the three listed*How to paint or finish the bears*How to display the bears*How to sell/market the finished productAlso, note that every photo in the step-by-step process is taken from exactly the same position, so some cuts and/or steps are not very visible. That said, there are enough illustrations to make up for this shortcoming.Bottom line: If you want to learn to chainsaw carve a bear, this book is adequate, but I'm hoping for a 2nd edition covering the materials listed above, as well as basic ratios for determining proportions on the bear.

Great book focusing on chainsaw carving for beginners.
I was asked to do a four-foot tall chainsaw carving forMy brother but have never done this before. After reading through the book, this is NOT something I can do - but is carefully written with great illustrations for carvers braver than me!
