how is this version different than the other version that sells for twice as much?

Slightly cheaper card holder but it works great

Can it hold more then three cards?

It holds three or four. If you answer in time correctly you can grab. If not and time elapses it falls down. The other card remain in the game box. When it is your turn you pick 3 or 4 cards (can't remember) and put them in the machine and put the lever down which starts the timer. Guess the first one before time elapses and you can grab. Otherwise it falls and you have to move on to card no 2 and so forth
