Liquitex Professional Effects Medium, 118ml (4-oz), Fabric Medium

This is an excellent product. I actually wrote a 3 star review at first but after a couple of washes I realize this stuff is amazing; I found a very sweet vintage quilt that had lovely colors except for an abusive bright red. I decided to buy it and tone down the red using this medium mixed with a white paint, which I applied lightly to wash out the bold tone. While it immediately looked how I wanted the result was very starched. I thought, well at least it looks nice and I will just live with the stiff patches. Over time I washed the quilt as one does, not having any expectation that the result would be 100% wonderful. While the quilt still holds the original paint it is no longer stiff. Sometimes my experiments work out, thank you for a great product!!

The short answer? It's been a hot minute since I've last used proper fabric paint, but I feel like this medium works about as well as fabric paint. Long review: I saw a comment on someone's YouTube video that mentioned that this product exists and tends to be cheaper to use than getting fabric paint. I wanted another way to use my acrylic paint, so I grabbed a bottle. I liked how no heat setting was required, so I went to work. In hindsight, I should've used an old egg carton to mix the paint as opposed to the old cheese plate since the medium is very runny. That made it harder to gauge how much medium I needed. Still, I was impressed that the paint's color was never compromised even when I thought I added way too much medium. I was afraid of cracking, so I only did one coat on the bag with stripes. The other two items were just me offloading paint, but it did give me a chance to see if even light amounts of paint would survive the wash. The striped bag does look a bit faded (but that's a happy accident; I love it), so I might experiment with two coats of paint on another project. I like how the shirt and smaller tote bag came out, too. One thing I will say is this product may be too expensive if you plan on painting quite a bit. These three pieces used around two thirds of the bottle. I won't know if the price if worth it until I try another brand. I'll update this review when I do. Still, I'm happy I could use the colors I want.

One thing you need to know, you shouldn’t mix it with water for thinning

I’ve used a few different fabric mediums over the years, and this Liquitex Professional Effects Medium has quickly become one of my favorites. It mixes easily with acrylic paint and makes it much easier to work with when painting on fabric. I really like how it improves the flow and blending of the paint without making the color look washed out. It gives me more time to work with the paint, which is especially helpful when trying to blend colors or create smoother transitions instead of having the paint dry too quickly. The finished result also has a much better feel than using straight acrylic paint on fabric. The paint remains flexible rather than becoming overly stiff or brittle, which is important for anything that's going to be worn or handled regularly. A little goes a long way, so the 4-ounce bottle should last quite a while depending on how much you're using. The consistency is easy to mix, and I've had good results with different acrylic colors. Overall, this is a great addition to an acrylic painting setup if you work on fabric. It makes the paint easier to blend and apply while helping create a more flexible, professional-looking finish. Liquitex has always been a brand I trust for art supplies, and this medium definitely lives up to that reputation. Great product and worth having on hand for fabric projects.

This medium was pretty good and I liked how it looked on my clothing.

Pretty straight forward to use. Pour equal parts acrylic paint and this project and it makes it pretty easy to paint on fabric. It also requires no heat setting. For drying, I just let it sit over night, undisturbed.

I used this to add to acrylic paint used for two hats that I painted for my brother’s birthday! It made the paint a smoother texture that didn’t leak through to the other side. I used an iron on low setting and cheesecloth, to cover the paint to make it waterproof! So far, no running paint in the rain reported!
