Excellent for beginner or advanced
This is an excellent reference book for beginner or advanced shortwave listener. Andrew Yoder has written a number of good books on this subject. Even thou this book was published in 1997, most of the information is still valid today. It provides the following information:1) What is shortwave radio, past, present and future2) Information on choosing the best shortwave radio3) Lots of details on antennas for shortwave reception5) Information about Longwave listening6) Information about Mediumwave listening7) Details about shortwave listening8) Pirate and Clandestine radio listening9) Utilities radio listening10) CB radio, amateur radio, FM and TV listening11) Computer controlled radios12) Dozen of useful tables about shortwave listeningThis is a great book and you can get a real bargain if you can catch one used like I did ($0.01 plus shipping.See my review of shortwave radios and books on my YouTube channel "hamrad88"

A worth while purchase.
A solid introduction to short-wave Radios and much more (CB radio, Computers, Amateur radio, etc.). The writing is straight forward and very informative. Solid tips that include a small selection of viable radios to purchase. This book along with "Passport to World Band Radio" should be on every serious short-wave enthusiast's bookshelf. Worthy purchase 4 stars.

One Star
Old, outdated and in need of revision.

it is outdated,
This may be a good history book, but buying a book abut a dynamic activity like radio that was published in 1997 is one thing. it looks like this book was sold out of a library in the Linconshire public library in Britain. It may have some use as a historical reference book, but for a useful, modern SWL book, it seems to be of little use. I am not one to return books, but this one will not se much use if I can get a volume published sometime after 1997. Call it a rookie mistake.

Shortwave Listening
This book is not only well organized but also a great read. This book can save a novice listener athousand hours of his life to actually find stations of interest than to tune blindly into the shortwave void.A very entertaining book with enough enjoyable subject matter to help even a professional wave "bender" keep his interest for the rest of his life.
