Great feeder, lasted about 2 years
Have to start out that this machine is worth the purchase just wish it would have lasted a little longer. Started using this WellToBe pet feeder on 10.13.2023 and it worked fantastically for multiple small meals for my 2 kittens when I first brought them home till about a week ago (now 12.5.2025). Once the kittens got older I was able to switch to 2 larger meals per day with no problem. Very minimal clogging happened in the hopper and I definitely did not clean the feeder as often as I should have. The split feeder was a must with the 2 kittens and it did dispense very evenly through its lifetime. Between 10.13.2023 and 11.25.2025, I never considered having to change the batteries in this thing! Keeping it plugged in kept it running smoothly untill it didn't. Now to explain the weird that happened. When this WellToBe feeder is plugged in there is a full circle on the front lit up, but when I started noticing some abnormalities in dispensing the light was only showing on the bottom half. The feeder completely stopped disappearing food while plugged in (hopper would not turn) but when I unplugged it the food could dispense from batteries only. At this point my now very old batteries didn't have enough charge to do many feeding so I finally replaced them. When I first opened the battery compartment I was welcomed to 2 exploded batteries (maybe a little exaggerated but there was quite a bit of corrosion). The feeder worked great for about another week then when I went to refill the hopper, every died again... So decided to change batteries again and was yet again welcomed to exploded batteries. I still replaced them again but I could not bring life back to the feeder. So I am now looking to replace but am thinking of just rebuying this same feeder since it was so reliable until it finally died. Even though this last week has been very frustrating, I still fully recommend this WellToBe feeder to anyone that needs to do small portions or feeding 2 animals at once.

Long-lasting, reliable feeder that you can place and not worry about for over a week
For cat owners that that have cats that require separate food bowls, even portions every time, and timed feedings without the hassle, this may be the option for you! I bought this feeder in late 2021 and have been using it daily since. If you want the short summary, it's a great feeder and that has everything that you need. The bells and whistles are add ons that aren't necessary but nice to have. This feeder has some really nice and thoughtful features that I wouldn't have thought about until I had cats using them. The dispenser is inside the unit. So even if your cat tries to stick its paws in, you won't see food coming out. There is a latch that clasps the lid close so that even the rowdiest of cats won't be able to open the lid. Unit can run on battery or plug in via power outlet. I'd recommend just leaving it plugged in and the battery can run if/when you have a power outage. New units seem to include desiccant bag holder, which is a really good idea for owners who have humid households. Mine did not have it since I bought this a while back but I have never needed it as the food stays fresh inside the hopper. Lastly, when the unit detects that feed is low, it has a light that flashes to indicate that. Maintenance is very easy. There's really not much to do. While the hopper is easily removable and can be washed, I have never felt the need to regularly clean it as I don't see any moisture build up inside. The bowls are removable and I clean them every once in a while. They slide right back in once you're done. As for refilling, if you fill up the hopper, it should easily last over a week. Since my cats don't eat as much, a full hopper usually lasts me 2-3 weeks. This makes it very easy to use in conjunction with a smart water fountain and auto litter box. I only have one gripe about this product: the stainless steel bowls. These will definitely wear out over time. As your cats continue to lick the bowls everyday, the stainless steel bowls will, ironically, get stained. So at some point, you'd have to replace them. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not offer replacement bowls so you'll have to find them yourself. Luckily, the comments section is pretty helpful. So it seems as long as you get a bowl that is 7" in diameter and with a depth of under 2", then it should fit. Overall, I'm extremely impressed and happy that this product has lasted me such a long time. And to this day, it has never missed a feeding schedule and remains my most reliable "smart" pet product that I own (compared to my auto litter box and water fountain).

Had it 3 years--Overall good and does what it should, need to unscrew a few things to clean well
Overall: I've had this feeder for probably 3 years, and overall it works pretty well. The cats appreciate eating on a schedule and I appreciate not having to be home to feed them at the right time. I'm saying 4 stars because of room for improvement BUT it's lasted a while and was the size I was looking for. It's straightforward and does what it should. Parts: BOWLS: it is annoying that there aren't really stainless steel bowls that you can replace/cycle out when you clean them, but they're stainless steel so it doesn't really matter that they get scratched up like people complain about... They're stainless steel HOPPER: you should take it apart completely occasionally to really clean it, which means lots of screws...even if you clean well the plastic retains the food smell, which makes me wonder if it's actually good quality plastic and if microplastics/plastic oils are getting on the food... but that's a battle we fight throughout our lives isn't it? Jamming: Occasionally smaller portions of food will come out which can be disappointing for the cats, but usually it will correct itself on the next turn. I loosened the screw on the rotating part when I cleaned it so maybe that will help. (See below for cleaning) Schedule: I really like the schedule, you have to do a little bit of math/trial and error to figure out how much each "portion" is, but it seems to be good for my fatter cat not eating all the food if you just left it out in bowls. This has been immensely helpful for my sleep haha. ***Cleaning:*** The instructions don't say anything about taking the hopper apart ... Usually when you clean it you don't need to, but after a while there's food residue that really gets stuck in the different parts at the bottom of the hopper, today I noticed how disgusting it is in there so I went ahead and unscrewed all the pieces. I highly recommend doing this because the food residue gets stuck in there and goes kind of rancid, and I'm sure there's bacteria as well. Look at the photos I posted here, I recommend taking the spinny part out first, then flipping it over and taking off the larger bottom part. It makes it way easier to clean each of the components. I would have taken process photos but wasn't thinking about it. When you put it back together, be careful not to thread the screws crooked, also I consider myself pretty handy and my brain broke when I tried to figure out the orientation of the big piece when I was putting it back on. Pro tip-- the hole lines up with the hole in the feeder housing 😅

If you have a “Scarf and Barf” cat READ THIS!
UPDATE! I’ve had the feeder for several weeks now and It definitely does it’s job! My kitty seems much less stressed when we leave and seems to have much less food insecurity. She goes running as soon as it calls her! I haven’t had any issues yet with her knocking it over but we have it wedged in a corner. The slow feeder modifications we made seem to do the trick and no clogs or missed feedings yet! So far- a great investment! If you have a “scarf and barf” cat- read this! Portion size and servings was a major factor in my search for an auto feeder, but also how it was dispensed. I read in most reviews on this product that one portion is approximately 1 TBSP- however I tested this with my own cats kibble and the portion size does vary for each feeding a bit. This may have just as much to do with size and shape of kibble- but my kibbles are well within the range they suggest. I tested about 1 portion about 10 times and sometimes it resulted in a scant TBSP and other times it was a heaping TBSP- almost 1.5 TBSP. Now if your cat has a strict diet- this may be an issue- and I will be monitoring my kitty for weight gain to be sure she is being fed appropriately. Another reason I selected this feeder was because I was hoping the two bowls would slow her down as she has a tendency to “scarf and barf”. My cat is one who typically has to use a slow feeder or food puzzle to keep from eating too fast. With the bowls being open she was definitely able to eat too fast still. I pursued a small silicone slow feeder mat that fit perfectly into one of the bowl holders and attached it with Velcro so I could still remove it for cleaning. In the other bowl a place a semi- large rock- flat enough for her to get around, heavy enough that she can’t remove it, but small enough that she can push it around to get to kibbles around it. So far- both of these have helped slow her down- I am experimenting to see which works best. IF YOU HAVE TWO CATS! BE WARNED the proportions that end up in each bowl can vary greatly! Sometimes you get an even amount in each bowl- but more often that not- it seemed to dispense 25%-50% more in the left side bowl. We had two good reasons for getting an auto feeder. One: she is food obsessed and cries at us non stop if we even walk near her food cabinet or open anything that sounds like it could be food. She is perfectly healthy but I thought allowing her to “graze” more throughout the day would be helpful. Second- when we go out of town- our cat sitter is unable to make it home right at dinner time and then my cat becomes frantic and starts getting into things searching for food! So hopefully this will also help her not miss meals- and take the pressure off our sitter to get off work in time to feed her. SO FAR the feeder is doing its job! It was very easy to program and set a recording. It was also very easy to assemble- though you must let the batteries kick on and start working before plugging it it. I was pushing buttons trying to get it to work and it did not start working until I did this. Not a problem- just a quirk. Also we had to prime the hopper by lifting it out and turning it several times to get food into each dispensing compartment before it would start dispensing properly. Some people commented on it not being too sturdy. We have ours wedged into a corner- so that probably deters her from trying. So far- seems pretty solid! Also, the lid seems to lock well in place and you have to push the unlock button pretty hard and lift the lid simultaneously- so I don’t think my cat will be able to find a way in. Hope this review helps you decide! Most of these don’t seem to be made for cats like mine but we’ve made it work!

Best purchase ever - reliable feeder for 2 cats
This feeder was such a good investment. I bought and started using this feeder 2.5 years ago and it feeds my two then kittens, now cats, 4x per day. They’re both pigs and eat fast, so they get 4 smaller meals instead of 2 larger meals. It’s reliable in dispensing food: it dispenses at the times programmed to dispense and dispenses the amount of food programmed to dispense. The window on the side to monitor the level of food is terrific. And it’s so easy to open, but my cats haven’t figured it out. I have 2 cats, so the 2 bowls are perfect for my house. The food seems to mostly dispense equally between the 2 bowls. Interestingly, my cats don’t associate me with food, so they don’t beg me to be fed. They do meow incessantly into the ether when they know a feeding time is approaching, but they don’t direct their whining at me. It’s possible that the meowing is encouraged a bit because of the tight schedule by which they’re fed, though. My only issue with the feeder is that it’s easy for my cats to knock over. I moved it from a hard flooring location (where my one cat jumped on it as he ran at high speed to knock it over) to a carpeted location. The cats have only successfully knocked it over once since it’s been on carpet (in >6 months), opposed to the multiple times a day he did it previously. Luckily, he never succeeded in opening it, so the latch is secure. I love the stainless steel removable bowl, which I wash 1-2X per week. I’ve wiped out the food holder part a few times, which is probably not enough, but that’s more labor intensive and I forgot about it once it’s empty. In summary, I would buy this reliable and useful food dispenser again and again. I’ve had mine for 2.5 years now and it’s still working great. I only replaced the batteries once in that time and mine goes off 4x per day. Once filled, the food last about 10 days until it needs to be refilled, which means it’s also great if you’ll be out of town.

Great for one cat. If two cats, one cat can steal
This feeder gave us peace of mind when we went on vacation. Our cats caught on to the dinner bell sound (our recorded whistle) quickly. Our cat sitter didn’t have to come every day and we knew the cats would get regular feedings. It worked so well, we kept using it after we got home. Later, we discovered one cat dominated the food while the other wasn’t getting enough. So we got a locking feeder for our skinny cat that only opened when the locked lid detected her collar as she approached. That worked fine for a while until that skinny cat decided to eat out of both bowls. Now the bigger cat isn’t getting enough. Always acting hungry and sitting by this unguarded automatic feeder. So I just bought a second collar sensing feeder. Now they will each have their own locking lidded automatic feeder and a sister can’t steal her food. It is the only way to monitor how much each cat is eating.

Works but needs reinforcement
The cats think this machine is their god. This works well for everyone - They don’t bug us in the mornings for food, and we all can just focus on snuggles and play. We can leave them for 5 days at a time and they’re happily fed. We’ve had the feeder for three years now. HOWEVER! It’s taken quite a bit of trial and error to find all the ways the cats can derail and destroy the feeder! The most frequent is knocking the bowls off the bottom, so the food spews everywhere at feeding time. Whatever, they eat it all anyways, not the worst. But why do they make the bowls so hard to put on and so easy to fall off‽ Next, our smart cats figured out how to use the “dispense” buttons on the top, so we had to put thick cardboard over that. They try to put their arms up the chute, but don’t have success (doesn’t stop them from trying). They will knock the whole thing over and beat the living daylights out of it to try to get the lid to open - to the manufacturers credit, it hasn’t opened yet, but it won’t dispense when on its side, so you have to either put something really heavy on top or strap it to the wall if you’re going to rely on the machine feeding the cats while you’re gone. Same thing with the power cord, which according to our cats is a fun spicy sparky toy snake. We immediately wrapped it in a protective sleeve and duct tape, but even this has proved insufficient over time - it’s needed two replacements, and taping both to the wall plug and to the machine itself. Pictured is our current setup. In sum, the machine works, but could really be more of a fortress against catty ways. Haven’t found any better though!

On-Going Review. So Far So Good
MAR 2, 2024: I've had this feeder for a few days now. I bought the wifi version simply because it was on sale - I didn't NEED the wifi version, but I figured that since it was on sale, it would be nice to have. At the time of this review, I give it 4/5 stars. 1) The set-up was relatively easy and quick to get going. Connecting the feeder and the app to my wifi was straight forward. The only issue I had was I wasn't sure if I was supposed to connect to MY wifi or the wifi named "smartfeeder". I had to connect to MY wifi, because it wouldn't work if I tried the smartfeeder wifi. So I don't know why that was even an option. But once I figured that out, it was smooth sailing. Putting the feeder together was also easy. The only thing that even needs to be "put together" is the feeding bowls and the two-way splitters. These just slide right in to slots on the feeder. No screws or nails involved whatsoever. In fact, you don't even need any special tools to put it together other than a flat head screw driver to put batteries in the bottom. The manual recommends that you use both the battery power and the charger power at the same time. Which makes sense, because if you only use the charger power, then your feeder will go down if the power ever goes out. And if you only use the battery power, the the wifi feature won't work and you need to change the batteries every so often. So I have both power options going at the same time. The feeder uses four D-sized batteries, and the batteries DO NOT come with it. I knew this ahead of time and bought the batteries before the feeder was delivered. The two-way splitter is also nice if you have two pets that need to eat. I personally don't use it because this feeder is meant for a specific pet I have. He eats special food that the other pets can't eat. 2) Setting up the feeding schedule was also easy. As soon as my phone app and my feeder were connected, the time setting on the feeder was changed automatically to match my phone clock. So all I had to do was put in the feeding schedule. This was also easy to do: all I had to do was put in the feeding time, feeding portion amount, and then save it. Again, the only issue I had with this was how much food was dispensed in each portion. Because you can put any kind of small dry food in it, the portion sizes would be a little different for every food type. For reference, my cat eats a prescription diet of Hills Urinary Care (I've included a picture of his kibble next to a US dime and a centimeter tape measure for an easy reference for other buyers). Through a quick test run, I discovered that 6 portions equals half a cup of food. Or roughly 40-45 grams. Any pet owner can easily test this with their own food. Just manually dispense a certain amount of food, and then measure how much it is. My cat needs just one cup/90 grams of food a day, so I didn't need long to test this. 3) I haven't yet tried the voice message function because I do not want to use it. I keep the feeder close by my bed and I don't want to hear myself yelling out to my cat at 6am. I will test it though and put it in a later review. 4) Even though I bought the wifi version, the feeder can still be controlled with physical buttons on top of the feeder in case the app goes down. Which I love. I was hesitant to buy the wifi version because of this very reason. I didn't want the app to crash and not have a way of feeding my cat if I was ever away. The buttons on the feeder work exactly how the app does. You can change the clock time, set the feeding times, set the feeding portion amounts, and record your message with physical buttons. You can also use a physical button to manually dispense 1 portion of food as a little treat if you want. So in case the app ever stops working, you can still set feeding times. 5) And now on to the app. The app was easy to download (the feeder came with a QR code to scan to get to the app) and it's easy to navigate. There aren't a lot of menu options to get lost in, so I feel like even an older person could use it relatively easy. The app also allows you to name your feeder, which is nice in the event you have multiple feeders. And my favorite part of the app is that you can see a feeding log of all the times the feeder had dispensed food. This is such an amazing feature that will ease any pet-owners nerves if they are ever away and want to be sure their pet is getting fed. Just look at the feeding log and see if the feeder dispensed food at the time it was supposed to. And if the feeder didn't dispense any food, you can just dispense it yourself instantly with the app. So, no matter what, your pet is able to get food when you're not there. 6) The feeder holds almost 4 pounds of food. Again, this will vary depending on what kind of dry food you use. Because my cat's kibble is pretty small, I was able to pack a lot into the feeder. I buy four pounds bags, and I could almost fit the entire thing. I only had a little bit left that wouldn't fit. So if you have to go away for a few days, you can fill the feeder to the top and never worry about your pet eating all of the food and then going hungry. Overall, at the time of this review, I absolutely love the feeder. It gives me peace of mind knowing that my pet will always have a way of being fed.
