How to remove battery cover

That was the only thing I had a problem with at first, too. Looking at the timer from the back, lift up the stand. This will reveal the opening around the battery face plate. Using your thumb, push down on the raised line above the word "Liorque" & slide the battery face plate toward the bottom. Voila! There is the battery.

There seem to be two models, one with 1s and another with 5s?

I havent seen two different models advertised, mine has increments of 1 hour , 5 min,1 min,and 1sec so you can adjust to a very exact timing.

I see this counts up, but can you pause and continue ? Thanks

Yes. During both count up and count down the sequence can be paused by pressing the ST/SP button and then pressing it again to restart counting.
