Q: How is this different than the higher priced breville bke820xl?

The two models are similar in functionality, but differ in the way temperature is selected. This model uses a single button to prores through each temperature setting, until it gets to the one you want. The BKE820xl has a LED wrapped button for each temperature selection, you just push the one you want directly. Also the BKE820xl has a slightly larger water jug.

Yes, the water window and lid are plastic and not glass. Water and steam may come into contact with these parts. The model uses BPA Free plastics.

Q: What is the difference between this and the 5 programmed setting?

HI - there are five buttons that select the temperature of the water. They range from 175, 195, 200, 205 and 212 degrees. There is also a "hold temp" button that will maintain your selected temp for up to twenty minutes. Its a great machine - quick and quiet!

Q: Does this remember the previous temp setting or do you have to choose it each time? Trying to find a simple solution for someone who can't see well

It comes in at the last temp that was used. I drink only green tea and have it set at 170- each time I hit the start button it is on 170. If my daughter makes black tea and changes it to 212 then it will start at 212 the next time it's turned on. If the person using it sets it at one temp, it will always be on that temp when started. Hope this's helps - it would work well for someone with limited eyesight. It's a great machine too.
