Signed, Sealed, Delivered

Engaging and Satisfying -- the Best of Hallmark
I’m no stranger to Hallmark movies. I watch them because I like stories with happy or at least resolved endings and because I find no entertainment value in the gratuitous violence that dominates 80% of scripted programs on TV. I can’t always get all the way through a Hallmark movie — glaring factual errors, inconsistencies within the story, bad editing and terminally slow pace will send me running to a news channel. But when I find a good one I often watch it more than once. So it is with Signed, Sealed, Delivered. I think I’ve seen the whole set — the original pilot movie, the series of episodes, and the four later movies including Signed, Sealed Delivered for Christmas (2014), which is my personal favorite. I hope there will be more. There are many things to like about this series, but I’ll mention the ones that might be of greatest interest to someone considering a purchase. The characters are endearing — quirky individuals with certain complexities that make them less than predictable and yet understandable. They are well-developed over time, not reduced to caricatures. If one pays attention one learns something new about each of them in each episode. The story from the pilot to the most recent movie is all of a piece. Care has been taken to be true to the information already provided about the characters’ lives and experiences, and there are frequent references to past events to keep tying things together, which means that if the viewer, for example, watches Signed, Sealed, Delivered for Christmas and hasn’t seen the series he or she will figure out the context and essential character features and relationships pretty quickly. The humor is subtle. The basic premise is humorous — the seriousness of the work of the Dead Letter Office of the U.S. Postal Service — and it goes on from there. Unlike the worst of Hallmark movies, there are relatively few script inconsistencies — occasionally a character refers to a document or past event inaccurately, but it’s a minor distraction. Most of all, the relationships of the main characters with each other — what they learn from each other and teach each other, and how they approach the problems they are responsible for solving — is inspiring without being overly sentimental. Ultimately it is Oliver O’Toole’s story, and he is a very interesting, complicated man — well-educated, a lover of words and of things of quality from the past, a person with a heartbreaking story, a man of principle, and a man of faith. The religious element is not overwhelming. Often the story includes a moral dilemma or a challenge to a character’s courage. I particularly like the treatment in several episodes of questions of readiness and redemption — how when bad events separate people they need time to be ready to try to make amends or resolve the thing that separated them, and ultimately good usually comes from the effort, even if the passage of time has changed circumstances so that a full reconciliation is not possible. For anyone on his or her own spiritual journey, stories of hope, goodness and the unexpected are food for thought. Signed, Sealed Delivered, as a whole, is engaging and satisfying. I recommend all of it highly.

I always liked this series. It is an interesting and adventurous show on the way the Post office works with non delivery packages.

Great movie- NO CC or subtitles
Why did I assume there were subtitles? Oh, yeah, it's 2020. We have the technology. And yet, NO SUBTITLES.I bought all the SSD in order to watch them with my mom, who is going deaf. She needs CC or subtitles and the versions on the Hallmark Channel are inconsistent- some have CC, some do not. In fact the episodes are a little mixed up on the Hallmark Channel- one episode is missing and the rest have been fit into place with the wrong number and title of episode. Some of the movies on Hallmark channel have CC, some do not.The whole family loves this series- it is witty and fun and decent and interesting. We were so disappointed that the there is no way now to watch together as a family. This was going to be our Christmas activity this year- hibernate and watch all the SSD in order of production.Sigh.Stupid Hallmark.

A Compelling Drama
This is the pilot of a wonderful Hallmark series. The characters are well acted and become "friends throughout the TV series and subsequent TV movies. This story tells of a love at first sight with tragic complications. The "Postables" get involved and help to bring a remarkable solution to the problem and grow a bond that gets played out in the series to follow. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys movies about human relationships. It has it all.

If You Loved The Pilot, You Will Love The Series!
This is just REALLY good family entertainment. Even the intense shows are more than watchable because, let's face it, it's Hallmark, so how far can it go? But the lessons are intense enough, the finales what you hoped that they might be without being too obvious, lots of nice twists and turns. The characters become more lovable with each new episode and while the whole premise is a bit preposterous (NEVER fall in love with a co-worker, eligible or not...) on one level, they are all so likeable that you WANT them to grow together, especially Norman and Rita, the MORE eligible ones in this office. But it's not just about them, this team of four, but great guest appearances and fun throughout. HIGHLY recommended with the rest of the TV movies followed. Streaming? Bah! Humbug! Own these adventures!!!

Great - the show I've been longing for!
SSD is fantastic! It has the perfect mix of comedy/drama/romance/sadness/hope. I've been hoping/searching for this combination in a TV series for decades and at last here it is! This pilot film sets the main series up well - the series is even better!
