Will these keep clothes from smelling of cooking? I live in a studio flat and the cooking smell gets into my clothes in wardrobe..

Using covers on your clothes helps with many things, however I would suggest that you also purchase some Lavender Bags too. Also make sure that when cooking that your wardrobe doors are shut. I have slatted wardrobe doors so I covered the insides with material. Its also important to make sure your extractor fan over your cooker is not blocked.

Yes they are sealed at the bottom. I use them for cashmere jumpers, silk blouses/shirts and some of my jackets.

How many microns or gauge (thickness) does the plastic have?

Don't know the answer to this but they aren't thick, best as use for long term storage, not for regular moving about / travel,
