Machinist by trade, LRP Shooter as hobby & highly recommend these.
I'm a machinist by trade and haveworked in everything from specialty shops, aerospace, and currently making Suppresors for Rugged Suppresors. Ran mills and lathes holding tolerances from as big as .031" to +/-0.0002". The much more expensive digimatics by Mitutoyo and dial calipers from Starrett and they r much more expensive but not a huge amount of difference in accuracy for dial calipers reading in .0005" increments. I've had lesser "shockproof" dials that will literally go out of calibration from dropping from my waist onto carpet. I use my home/personal sets for reloading Long range Precision cartridges(6.5x47Lapua, 6x47L, & 308Win for now....) finally decided to try fowler as we had some sets of parallel bars from them that were better than the other sets we had & coworker said they've used calipers and micrometers by fowler and thought were on par with Mitutoyo & only thing better he's used were Starrett. They have been SOOO much better on getting my BTO, seating depth, case trim length, and COAL measurements exact vs wondering +/- .002"-.005". Definitely see an improvement in my groups(gone from 3/4" 5 shots to around 3/8 & some 1/4" groups now) at 100 & 200 but haven't got to try out at the 600 & 800 yard ranges yet. Very happy with the purchase abd will be looking at if they have a ball micrometer for measuring case wall thickness too. Highly recommend.

Very Nice
I was a machinist for 3yrs out of high school, working within .002 tolerances and am now in the automotive industry, so I have used expensive to cheap calipers. Now i'm getting into 3D printing and wanted my first "clean" pair - and always have preferred gauge over digital. Fowler is well known, as the old-head machinists would always have a pair they never let anyone else borrow and kept pristine. Of course there are more expensive ones out there, but these do exactly what they're meant to with precision, and just feel awesome in the hand. I do wish they maybe came with those 1'' machined cylinders for proof of accuracy/checking, but that's just me being extra as they can be adjusted with the jaws shut fully. Can't go wrong with these!

The best of the low priced ones
Out of the box it was stiff in operation. I played with the spring plate adjustment and found the right tension. It now moves smooth from 0 to 5 inches with the last inch a little tight. After using it a couple of weeks almost every day I found the Fowler to be quite good. Probably the best bang for the buck. I have recently tried Harbor Freight at $18 and it was junk. I next tried a Tekton 7155 at $21 and it was just ok. For the Fowler 72-008-706 at $35, I would call it a best buy. I doubt if a $70 caliper could be much better. There is/was 2 slight problems. 1. The indicator plate at 0 is slightly right of 0, no problem. 2. The thumb wheel was slightly cocked and would have a binding feel. If I didn’t have to drill out the bracket that holds the wheel and put it in alignment, I would have given it a 5.

Typical Fowler excellent quality and accuracy.
Accurate, typical Fowler quality. Not much else to say except that it's pretty rugged too. I previously had a Craftstman dial caliperthat wore out and was replaced with a lesser known brand, digital caliper. The digital caliper was problematic, often needing a second reading to feel confident about the first and batteries had short life as caliper was stored in a cold garage. I went back to this dial and like it a lot. It's always accurate and after several months of use it's a pleasure to take it out, measure something once and put it back feeling confident the reading was correct. My Craftsman caliper was nearly 40 years old. This caliper appears to be of equal or better quality so I expect many years of service from it. One note: Many of the sales sites show this caliper is a sturdy, heavy plastic case with cushioned liner. The case supplied is a actually a more flexible, look-through plastic with plastic lining. The lining is the type of plastic that after a few years cracks and falls apart. You also need two hands to open the case, an inconvenience that I don't like.

Quality better than I expected.
I had been using my central tools caliper for the past 16 years. For the first 6 years I had it I used it when I was a mechanic and then for the past 10 years it had been used for my reloading hobby. I've tried other calipers and never liked the way they felt so I kept going back to my central tools caliper. It stopped holding zero and I had no choice but to replace it. I wasn't sure how I would like this but based on some of the other reviews I ordered it and I'm surprised at how much I like it. It has a tight but smooth feel to it and feels like it was put together very well. I've set it down a little harder than I should have a couple of times and its held its zero without issue. For my reloading needs its plenty accurate and I think I made a good choice. If I was going to fault it for anything it would be that I think the box it comes in should be nicer and have more padding.

This is an instrument, more than a tool
Have you ever received or picked up a tool that, as soon as you felt it, you knew it was 2 cuts above the competition? Made is Switzerland the Fowler dial caliper blew me away even when I felt the weight and practicality of the box, not even opened it, yet. I had dropped my old one and it no longer worked accurately or smoothly. I couldn't afford Mitutoyo. Research said the Fowler was a good caliper. The research is absolutely correct. The heft, the ease of reading, the cleanliness of the instrument reminds you you have something very special in your hand.

Didn't last two years
This has been a fine caliper for daily use in my wood shop. But... lately the travel has become too tight to use the roller, and I have some trouble keeping the bezel aligned on zero. I've been muddling through, but today I had enough. I'm here to buy either a Starrett or a Mitutoyo. Once and done, hopefully.

A very well made caliper, tight, accurate and comfortable. I would say it's worth more than the cost compared to higher priced calipers yet does the same job. Excellent tool
