Renews clipper to as new capability, for a price
After about 2 years the clipper pretty much stopped clipping, it would try and hammer the vegetation to death, but clipping was out of the question. So, gave the blade replacement a go. Now it clips like it was brand new. So why not 5 stars you ask? Well,,,, it's pretty darned pricey is why. If you add up the cost of these beauties, they are not what you'd call cheap. Each piece isn't too bad, but when you figure total cost, clipper, battery, charger, you are out serious money just to chop the head off a weed. Now add in obsolescence and they start to get you. Take for instance, this model is now out of date, but who wants to go through another round of new clipper, new battery, new charger? This is exactly what you would have to do if there was not a blade replacement... So,,,, I'm torn. Good now, but this blade will probably not last any longer than the first one did. Don't know at that point. Maybe just forget the whole idea of small clipper. Bottom line, if this rig would last 5 to 10 years like it should, given how much it costs in total,,, that's one thing. But $65 for a blade every 2 years????? (and of course we know the price will go up, if you can even get a replacement 2 years from now) So,,,,, maybe I should mark it down to 3 stars???

so effortless, it felt I was cutting cloth
I buried the first set on the ground to get at the roots and ruined the sharp, but just like everready it kept on cutting even with bent blades... replacement blade really child's play to change

Expensive Replacement if all you need is the tension rivet
Super expensive replacement if all you need is a tension rivet (circled in red in my submitted picture. Not sure what Makita calls this). I purchased this when I noticed that the original blades were not cutting anything well after about 4 months of use. It seemed like the blades were sharp but it was tearing the grass because they were getting caught between the upper and lower blades. After examining the new and old blades I realized that there was a rivet shaped piece of metal that was missing from the original blade which is used to press the top and bottom blades together at the front of the shear. I didn't try removing the tension rivet but did measure the gap at the rear to be about 0.091 inches (2.35mm). It this were to fall out again I would try replacing this with a rivet. I took away one star for the design (it should not have fallen out in the first place or if it is a part that wears out, Makita should offer a replacement part rather than forcing people to buy a new blade ($56) or a new shear ($85)) and another star for the high price.

Why did I wait so long?!
I have used my clippers for over two years, cutting regular grass to ornamental grasses. It kept taking me longer to finish a job, so I tried to sharpen my old blades. After sharpening it was like cutting with wet noodles. I bit the bullet and ordered these new blades. I couldn't believe that I waited so long! They sliced through the grass with no effort and made me love my Makita clippers again!

Make your Makita electric grass shears work like new.
These blades are quite sharp. But after a season of cutting, they'll get dull and won't cut much of anything. At this point your options are to either sharpen your blades, or replace them. I highly suggest that you sharpen your blades if you can. These new replacement blades are overpriced in my opinion (my reason for giving a 4-star rating instead of 5). Why do I think they're overpriced? Keep in mind that you can purchase new Makita grass shears (model XMU04Z) for around $85.00, and they come with new blades. Therefore, your options are to spend $55.00 for replacement blades. Or you can spend just $30.00 more and get new Makita shears that come with new blades. See my point? Again, sharpen your existing blades if you can. New Makita grass shears (with new blades, but without a battery or recharger), sell for around $85.00 (model .XMU04Z). This seems out of proportion. You can spend $55.00 for new blades. Or spend $30.00 more and get brand new shears that include new blades. However, I've since learned how to sharpen these blades That means that you can spend $55.00 for replacement blades. Or spend $30.00 for an entire new
