This Is My Home, This Is My School

We went from "this is what we're doing" to "I love having school at home
This book completely changed the tone of our homeschool. We went from "this is what we're doing" to "I love having school at home." The author's 'prequel' about building the actual house is well worth the read - ESPECIALLY if you are going through the experience of building a new home. We checked out both books from the library then bought this one. I also love the watercolor used in the illustrations - really lovely.

Excellent book!
I also bought this book as a back to homeschool theme for my smaller children. However, all of my hs kids loved it ( ages 14 - 3). They had many things in common with his homeschooling family. They also like to look through the busy illustrations and discuss whats going on with each character in the book. I found it useful and encouraging for my middle and high school children, that he talks about how he went on to college and still learns from his father to this day. I even appreciated that he added how much work his mother put into homeschooling them each day. This story being a true story, just makes it soooooo much better and more encouraging for my children.

This is my homeschool family review :)
Jonathan Bean has done it! He captured the messy, joyful, sometimes tiring, colorful, adventure of homeschooling in this new arrival to my home-library. Upon opening our new book (with high-quality binding and paper, by the way), my oldest son and I giggled and grinned our way through dozens of close-to-home vignettes. Especially the spread that shows all the reasons Teacher Mom gets tired! We were delighted to look at this book alongside Bean's earlier book, Building Our House. Appropriate to its topic, the earlier book featured tidy, detailed illustrations of the technical steps for building a house by hand. This new book features more of the author/illustrator's cheerful ink drawings filled with colorful paint, but takes a more coloring-outside-the-lines, childlike, excited approach. There are so many details to explore with each reading. Homeschooling families will enjoy seeing bits and pieces of their world featured in a picture book. Those attending traditional schools will have a peek at homeschool life, but will also make connections with their own learning-life adventures!

Must have for young homeschoolers!
This book is wonderful! We are just starting our homeschool this year, and my son has so many questions about when he gets to ride a school bus and go to school. This is very helpful in showing him that he won’t be the only kiddo going to school at home!

This absolutely encapsulates the joys and frustrations of family life
A must-have for all homeschool libraries. This book is as enjoyable for parents as for children. Upon first reading, it made each member of our family laugh out loud (with a few tears of gratitude welling in mom and dad's eyes). This absolutely encapsulates the joys and frustrations of family life and the utter privilege of living life with your children! We've bought this book for other homeschooling families, as well!

LOVE THIS BOOK!
This book is perfect for our family. I have it proudly displayed on our bookshelf so anyone visiting can remember this is our home and our school. The kids really like it, and my son was excited to see the author and illustrator was also the only boy in his family with three sisters.

A new tradition
I bought for our first day of school and I love it! Such a precious story - simple but so true for homeschoolers. The pictures are great. We read it 4 times our first week of school.

Perfect for our first day of homeschool
I was homeschooled as a kid, like the author, and I intend to homeschool my kids (they're 4). There are so many books about starting preschool, but I wanted to find a book to reflect the experience I'm hoping to create for them. This book is so joyful, so chaotic, and so full of love -- just like I remembered my house when my mom taught us. I teared up at the photos of the author's family as kids.I also appreciated that there were no rude comparisons to traditional schools, and no references to religion.

Inspiring
This book was really inspirational for my 4.5 year old. It's regularly chosen by him to read. The pictures are great and the book covers all areas of home education. Love the real home education photographs at the end of the book too

An excellent book. My daughters love it.
My daughters are home educated and love this book. It explains the difference between home and school but also shows that you can learn at home it's just looking at it another way from a traditional classroom. Super book and has become a favourite to our collection.

Great book!
We are a French homeschooling family and I was curious how others would live this crazy, but amazing journey. The illustrations are great, but what we loved is for every single page, there was stuffs, activities, things we do. I read it to my kids, gave it to my husband and asked him what he thought about it. Then I gave it to my parents and they all thought that it was sooo fun to see the life WE have too. A great book about homeschooling's reality and a much needed reminder that there are others like us!Loved it and will recommend it!
