Little Black Classics Box Set (Penguin Little Black Classics)

This is an excellent addition to my library. I see others said that their kids loved these books. I am not too sure about that. Sure they are great books. But have an adult theme. For instance the first book "Mrs Rosie and the Priest" is a nice story but unless you want Junior developing a more advanced vocabulary in which "cuckold, pimps, prostitutes" feature prominently I would suggest vetting a little bit.No complaints.By the way, as a response to other buyers who complained about their packages being all dinged up, the seller sent mine wrapped tighter than a mummy's knickers (see? vocabulary), and the soft fluff inside flew all over my yard and now it looks like dadgum Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in February (I am in Nairobi in September)Ta, and all that

I got this on sale but I am surprised they even let it go on sale! These stories are short but they aren’t 3 pages childrens books like I was expecting, they have about 50 pages on average each book and the text is pact in and small so you get the most of your little books which I can really appreciate! I try to read one every other night atleast, they are still short stories you can get done with in about an hour or two (depending on how fast you read)

I had been looking at this set for a few years now, and finally caved in getting it as it was on sale. And it’s exactly as mentioned! I do not believe the books contain “all” of the content that is in each original novel, they seem far too thin to contain everything BUT i do believe they contain the general premises. I have yet to read them, but just by skimming a few I’m certain they contain a “summary” of the story but in the “original” format if that makes any sense.Definitely would give it a chance if you’re looking to expand your at-home library, give a book lover as a gift, or to have a nice stack of classics to read a day (they’re short, each approx 50 pages).The only reason I knocked off a star is the way it was packaged. Although it was nicely wrapped (no damages) , the packaging contained a TON of fiberglass that I as an asthmatic, was not prepared for upon opening it. Now I have fiberglass all over my bed and unfortunately will have to throw my sheets away. I don’t think it’s the seller’s fault (I’m not sure how Amazon shipping works coming from different sellers), but i would be weary when opening the box. Maybe open it outside, with a mask on, and something over your clothes to protect them and discard afterwards.Anyways, despite that, I would definitely recommend this product still.

I saw a few people with this box set on Instagram and I just had to have. I wasn't sure what to expect since this box set is a huge collection of classic short stories and poems, but it has been a true delight to open up this box set and see the many wonderful stories inside. I've been choosing random books from the set to read when I'm in between a novel or want to read something that is not too long while having breakfast or dinner or out for a drive. There are some books and authors that I have heard of and some that are very new to me, considering that I mostly read fantasy, mystery and historical fiction. These little black classic books are a true treasure to have in any household.

There is slight damage to the case, but they're going on a shelf not staying in the case so that's not a big deal, but that damage does seem common with other reviewers. The books themselves are great! The perfect size and an amazing deal for the price!

The Penguin Little Black Classics box set is an 80-volume collection of 55-page books issued to commemorate Penguin's 80th anniversary. They represent classic authors from ancient Greece to the early 20th Century. As such, they make an excellent introduction to writers you may not be familiar with.Most books contain excerpts from longer works. For example, the Rudyard Kipling volume contains six stories from his collection, Plain Tales From the Hills. Some shorter works are presented in their entirety. Robert Louis Stevenson's novella Olalla and the Communist Manifesto are examples.Penguin has also issued a similar set of 20th Century authors.
