Great Graphic Novels
BIONICLE #8: Legends of Bara Magna is the first truly original BIONICLE graphic. Whereas the past seven have been complete collections of the older comics (save for #6, which had Hydraxon's Tale added to it), this one consists of three new stories:The Fall and Rise of the Skrall, a story detailing the Skrall's first encounter with the mysterious baterra and what caused them to move south to the Bara Magna desert and attempt to conquer the six Agori villages; The Exile's Tale, which features how the Glatorian Malum got exiled from the village of Vulcanus and how he ended up taking over a tribe of Vorox; and All Our Sins Remembered, a story that covers the Core War and the Shattering, two events that shaped Bara Magna into what it is today. All three stories are very well done. The artist for the first two stories is Christian Zanier, who previously did the artwork for Hydraxon's Tale in BIONICLE #6: The Underwater City. His art is incredibly detailed and looks extremly, well, cool, in my opinion. His best work for BIONICLE so far appears in The Fall and Rise of the Skrall. Very well-drawn and captures the atomosphere of the story quite well. The artist for the third and final story, All Our Sins Remembered, is Stuart Sayger, who was the artist of the BIONICLE comics for 2006-2007. Although I do not like his art style nearly as much as Zanier's, I think Sayger has gotten better at drawing BIONICLE characters. He works well with close-ups, I think, and he drew the Element Lords pretty well, too, in my opinion. He's kind of a controversial artist among BIONICLE fans for his darker, less detailed style, but he's got his fans and I can see why some would call him their favorite BIONICLE artist. As for the stories themselves, I will not spoil exactly what happens in each story. But I can tell you that Greg Farshtey - the guy who has been writing the BIONICLE comics, books, web serials, etc since BIONICLE's first year - wrote all three 25-page-long stories and they are of his usual high-quality work. The Fall and Rise of the Skrall, in particular, is my favorite of the stories. Combining Greg's great writing style with Zanier's super-detailed art? Excellent.Overall, I'd say that Legends of Bara Magna is an excellent graphic novel, well worth the money. I hope that BIONICLE #10: Power of the Great Beings (which may be released unless graphic novels #8 and #9 sell well enough) is just as good. It probably will, since Greg will be writing it and Zanier will be drawing it (I think).I'd definitely recommend this graphic novel to any BIONICLE fan out there, or anyone who likes Greg's work and Zanier's art or Sayger's art, too. Even if you are not necessarily a BIONICLE fan, I think anyone is able to appreciate the good art and writing prevalent throughout this graphic novel.

It gives us another look on how all the other worlds could have ended up in a world without the Toa or the Great Spirit.
This is such a different pace from all the other comics. It gives us another look on how all the other worlds could have ended up in a world without the Toa or the Great Spirit.

Horrible binding on paperback versions.
I made the mistake of not reading some of the other reviews; don't do the same! The binding falls apart in one to two days. This is a total shame. The kids love these books and I didn't pay attention to which ones were paperback and which were hardback. The one hardback that I purchased (book #9) seems to be holding up well, and I wish I had purchased all of them as hardbacks. In fact I consider the lost money as a lesson in reading reviews and item descriptions. The kids love these books so much, I have since purchased them again but in hardback of course. In summary, do not buy the paperback!

Great Expanded Universe
I love the additional details that this book provides, such as the Battera and the Element Lords. Wonderful expanded universe.

Great, but...
They never mentioned it was an ex-library book or the binding was in rough shape.
