I got this to lift a/c units up into a ceiling. Light lifts and short distances. Worked like a charm. Runs smooth. Didn't tangle. I used a cleat to hold the rope while I was working.Will it lift 4000 lbs? Maybe, but not without a winch to pull the rope. What could I hook it to that will hold 2 tons plus a safety factory of 2? Dragging something I might give a try. That brings me to why I replaced the rope.For the price I would buy again.A 3/8" twisted nylon rope is plenty strong but nylon stretches a lot. If I have 4000 lbs of tension on it what I've made is a giant slingshot. If something breaks there will be parts flying about. I put a 3/8" by 100' Dacron climbing rope on it. The Dacron rope doesn't stretch and recoil the way nylon does and I got some more lift length. The rope did cost as much as the pulley system but safety first.

I got this to replace a 2-pulley system which I’d used to raise and lower a 350 lb. foldable utility trailer. When using the 2-pulley system , I was fraught with anxiety due to how very hard I had to pull to get the trailer raised. This 4-pulley system allows me to much more easily raise and lower the trailer, reducing both the physical and mental stress on me.The issue of the rope twisting was easily remedied by taking my time running it through my gloved hands a number of times, until it stopped untwisting. I did this with the block & tackle mounted at the ceiling, with the two blocks up against one another. It will now hang with the lower block pulled all the way down without twisting, unlike before I untwisted the rope. Hope this helps.

If you base your expectation on the price you paying for this item you'll probably be satisfied. If you REALLY think you're buying a "Heavy-Duty" hoist that you can use to lift 2 tons ....... you're going to be sorely disappointed.I replaced the rope that came with it with a 3/8" rope purchased on Amazon. I did this based on other reviews indicating that the included rope was low quality and prone to twist up. I didn't try to use it with the supplied rope but did make use of the supplied rope to rig to the load I was lifting (a rooftop A/C for my travel trailer). To make sure I had adequate length of hoist rope for the lift distance I needed to make, I only strung it with 4 parts of line for the pictured lift. A/C weighed maybe 70-80 pounds I'd guess. The hoist made it easy enough to lift it up to the needed height and tie-off so that I could back my travel trailer under the load. Gradually lowered it down on top of TT.... Good to go!With the hoist fully strung over all pulleys I'd probably be OK pulling up about 1000 lbs if I had someone else to help me with the rope. Keep the math in mind here..... with all pulleys engaged this hoist is a 7:1 mechanical advantage. So to truly pull 4K with it you would have to pull on the end of the rope with 4,000/7=571 lbs. And that's not even factoring in pulley friction.

I bought this to lift the frame on a treehouse I am building for my daughter. It worked great and effortlessly brought everything up. left it out for several weeks, rain and shine, with minimal rust or problems.- Only thing I wish is that the rope was a bit longer, but I made with it just fine. I could have also bought rope at the hardware store and replaced it, but at the end it wasnt necesary.

I bought this to raise and lower ladder stands, and it works great, makes putting your stands in and taking them down a 1 man job.I needed a longer rope so I bought 100' of 3/8" rope, but that seems too large for the pulleys. Upon further investigation I found the rope is not 3/8" (.375") as described. If you look at one of the pictures it tells you the rope in 7.5mm which is .295", which I think is a more accurate size for this rope. I would guess the pulleys max. diameter rope is likely 5/16" (.3125") or 8MM.I would have given it 4 stars except for the inaccurate product description.

-When you need to lift a few hundred pounds, but you are not going to use it very often and you can't justify spending a lot of money on a high quality, heavy duty, system.-This is NOT good for "real" work. People are posting pictures where they've tried to haul logs, lift building materials, etc and are upset because "the darn thang broked!" THIS COSTS $19 PEOPLE! IT IS NOT MEANT FOR HEAVY DUTY USE DESPITE THE LOAD RATING.It is PERFECT for me because my hobby is home brewing and I sometimes need to lift a full 160 lb beer keg. This has a ratio where I only have to pull around 20 lb to lift a full keg. I don't use it very often, so I couldn't justify spending a lot of money. $19 for a full system including rope is quite a bargain. This will probably last forever the way I use it. I'd love the huge lifting ratio because I can hold the rope in one hand and easily move the suspended keg into position with the other.This item is fantastic for this sort of hobby use.
