This inexpensive adapter allows my 800$ MacBook Air to connect to flatscreen tvs with an HDMI port and play videos through my laptop. Previously all of my friends had been able to play videos on the tv through their laptops, but because I only have USBC outlets on my laptop I hadn’t thought that I could. I had been frustrated by this because it is an expensive laptop after all and you would expect it to be able to do something so basic. I had been contemplating what it would mean to sell this laptop on eBay and get another that had an hdmi port. But it occurred to me one day that they might be something as simple as an adapter, and after a quick search I ordered this. When it arrived I tried it out and now I am one of the cool kids that can play movies on the tv from my laptop.

This does what it needs to do as I have a MacBook but need the HDMI plug in for school. It is flimsy, so I have to support it if it’s getting dragged down as it will unplug itself.

it only figures that when apple came out with their new product line for 2021 (namely the apple ipads in one or more of their line of options) you will find some of them will require you to dump all your lightning cords/hdmi adapters as they will not work with the new usb-c connection on some devices. i found out when i got home from the store (having driven 20 miles each way) that the salesperson forgot or simply failed to mention that my new ipad mini newest generation (4th?) has not only dropped the headphone plug port but has changed from a lightning connection for charging, transfer or viewing of movies and such and is using this new port for the headphones as well... well, unless you use bluetooth (which is great) and you wifi movies to your big screen tv and so on... you will find you will need this adapter to connect your usb-c apple mini to your headphones/big screen tv and/or to charge the device. some will argue that you can go wifi or bluetooth to solve the need for buying this adapter but i have always had better use with a direct cord rather than the possible dropping of wifi use or bluetooth problems with occasional neighborhood drops in availability.

Bought it to reflect the display from my Macbook Air 2023 to a Samsung flatscreen TV (less than 5 years old). The display shows up on the TV but there is some kind of glitch where the screen quivers briefly every 10-15 seconds. If I swap it out with an older adapter (that I was hoping to replace because it is a bit bulkier) then everything works fine, rock solid screen, so the problem is obviously this adapter. Too late to return it and it wouldn't have been worth the gas to do it even if I was still in the return window. Let the buyer beware - you get what you pay for.

Works well into converting a USB-C/Thunderbolt port into an HDMI connection. I used this to be able to connect both a MacBook Pro and then an iPad to a projector during a luncheon. We were able to plug and un-plug between both the laptop and the tablet without any issues. The video may have taken a second to register but our projector immediately recognized either source within a few seconds. The build of this unit feels solid. Keep in mind that it does not charge your laptop or mobile device while in use. You may have to get a USB/Thunderbolt hub that can accomplish this if you need to have active power while viewing video content. Recommended.
