Excellent Candler - demonstration
The media could not be loaded. As I was editing this video, I realized that I sound a little too excited about it and I apologize. It's just not often that I am so pleasantly surprised to find a cheap product work so much better than I ever hoped. This whole thing is a simple concept - shine bright light into egg to see what's going on inside and inspect the elements. You see things like development, porosity of shell, cracks, detached air cells, air cell development, veins, blood rings, activity level of developing embryo, etc. . Candling provides you with a lot of data that you can use to properly analyze your hatch, make necessary adjustments to your humidity levels and get rid of dud eggs. There are many homemade options available and I've been using those methods. I had made a homemade candler, then I used various different bright flashlights. The problems I encountered was flimsiness, not permanent solutions, light leakage, clumsy, not enough light, my hand gets in the way, etc. . All small annoyances that did not prevent me from still being able to candle - but they were still annoying. So I get this candler and I am not expecting much. It's just that I have this big hatch coming up and I figured I should just try it out. I was so surprised at how much better this is! It takes away all those annoyances I've been putting up with. It's like having that little speck of a rock in your shoe. It doesn't hurt anything...and certainly doesn't prevent you from walking or even running - but it just feel soooo darn good to finally get that rock out. I am able to do a more complete and thorough analysis of each egg and I found issues with eggs that I had previously missed with my flashlight method. This just makes it so I will have a better understanding of what went wrong if I have any issues with those "bad eggs" during the hatching process. I was also able to apply wax over some tiny cracks that I found in some of the eggs - hopefully, saving them. What I like about this product:1. Super easy to use and is absolutely bright enough. It's only 220-240 LM (vs my 1800 LM LED Headlamp), but with the rubber tip, it "seals" around the egg and totally limits light leakage. You get two rubber tips and that will cover everything from large duck eggs to tiny quail eggs (as shown in my video). It will likely work with even larger eggs, but these are the only ones I have access to at this time. The tips are the perfect shape, gives you grip on the eggs, molds, is soft and very easy to change out, even in a dark room.2. Powered by a cable instead of batteries. Because you want the brightest light out there, people often have to change out the battery after only a few sessions. No worries about that with this one.3. So completely affordable.4. Because of it's slim shape and size, you can slip this into your incubator and candle your eggs from the top/side without having to take each egg out of the incubator or the egg turner. If you're just checking really quick for veining, movement, get an idea on development, air cell development, or pip into the air cell - you can see all these things using this method. By not taking each egg out, you save yourself some time and it lessens the risk of accidentally mishandling the eggs. I do wish the cord was longer when doing this though. Some people believe that a cooling period helps improve hatch rate, but some people do not, but this gives you an option that other candling methods do not. Some candlers are too bulky or do not seal well enough to pull this off so it's great that this one gives you that option. What could be improved:1. I would like a longer cable2. If it was possible to have a cordless, rechargeable version that does not suffer in performance - I'd be all over that.3. Better quality would be nice.4. Having a way to easily change out the bulb would be nice - just in case. LED's usually have a long life-span, but still. Those are the only things I can think of that would make it better. Of course, the price would go up as well then.Even if you are not interested in hatching eggs - this is very helpful in determining health of your hens and age of the egg. For example, you usually want a little older eggs for baking. An egg that's a little older is easier to peel if you hard boil them. You can also see the how evenly the calcium is being distributed on the egg. This will tell you if you need to adjust your laying hen's calcium supplementation, or her overall health. If you find a rogue egg and am not sure if it's already developing, you can check that too before cracking it open. Egg farms candle eggs to make sure you're not getting bad eggs, eggs with meat spots in them, etc. .I completely recommend this product. It works extremely well and am very happy with my purchase. Let me know if you have any questions, I'd be happy to try and help!

Great for large capacity incubators
Extremely easy to use. Worked good even in a well lit room. Best candlelight I've used. Was amazing to watch baby chicks in eggs moving at 12 days incubation. Great price well worth what you spend. I spent $70 on a different model but could only do 10 of 55 eggs before incubator cooled. This one I got all 55 done with time to spare for rearranging eggs that are behind in developement

Good product but the cable is a bit short.
Good product but the cable is a bit short as if they at the factory have not enough cable and not everyone has an outlet on their desk.

This thing is AMAZING.
We hatch a combined total of around 1500 fowl a year. Chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, ducks, quail, and emu. No, it won't shine through an emu shell. I'm pretty sure they're light-impervious. BUT--It does a fantastic job on all other eggs. The rubber cup provides a tight seal to the egg making sure all light goes through. We do have some very dark maran eggs that can be difficult to see through, but if it's dark AT ALL it's still pretty simple to determine development. For lighter eggs you can see cleanly through and see the heart beating usually. The best trick for this candler is to NOT TOUCH YOUR EGGS. Let me explain:Whether you have a cheaper styrofoam incubator or a NurtureRight or a GQF or a HatchingTime, don't individually touch your eggs, you're just going slow and introducing bacteria. Just get overhead access to your eggs, however they are. GQF or HatchingTime just pull the tray and set it on something flat. Styrofoam or NurtureRight just take off the lid. With the lights as dim as you can make them, just hold the candler light facing DOWN, and touch it to each of your eggs hard enough to seal it. You'll know in less than 2 seconds if it's developing, if it's a quitter, or if it never started.Never starts will glow almost like lightbulbs. Quitters will show the red ring of death. Developing eggs will show vasculature or in the case of super dark eggs you'll see through the air sack and then not see anything else---that's a growing egg.Just touch, look, and move to the next. It takes me about 45 seconds to do a full tray of 30 eggs in my HatchingTime, about 2 minutes to do 150 quail eggs in a hovabator. Can't recommend it enough!

Must have
Wish I had this sooner! It works like a dream to candle eggs, i could even use this bright light to see into French Black Maran eggs, carefully to see if there was development in the embryo. This saved me from letting a hen set on unfertilized eggs for nought, and also, gave me peace of mind when doing a final check of the eggs so that if the mother hen leaves the nest, I didn’t have fear of babies being abandoned. There are different rubber attachments included to use for differently sized eggs. The cord is a little short but it’s workable. I would highly recommend this product to others and will buy again (a mouse chewed the box and cord so I had to throw it away). The cost is affordable, more than worth it, seems well built - a worthwhile investment if you’re planning on hatching eggs, can’t put a price on peace of mind.

Works as intended, but be aware it is plug in only.
Please get one of these. Trust me, if you raise chickens, eh, you are going to want one of these eventually for obvious reasons. We keep this plugged in by where we store the eggs and check things before cooking. The one thing you should be aware of is that this is plug in only. My wife got it in the mail, plugged it in and was waiting for it to charge. If I didn't step in, she'd still be waiting. There are other cordless models, but this is fine for our needs.
