Great doc but needs updating
I purchased the Moshi iLynx 800 way back in 2011. It has worked great all this time. Looks really nice and does what I needed it to do. But now that newer Mac's no longer have firewire ports to plug this into, it has become dated unless you still have an older Mac with a Firewire port. I now will need to plug this unit into another doc that has a Thunderbolt 2 or 3 (USB-C) or a USB 3 Mac connection and a Firewire port for the Moshi. There are not many modern docs with Firewire ports available, OWC is one of the exceptions. I would like to see this Moshi doc updated to include two firewire ports, USB 3.1 ports with a USB-C or USB 3.1 connection to hook up to newer Macs. I still have a slew of external Firewire drives that are still in great working order and I am sure there are plenty of others in my camp who don't want to retire perfectly working equipment.

Looks very sleek under iMac. Provides one additional FireWire and three USB slots. Speed of connection is unchanged. After two years, FireWire connections seem to have become unstable (drive becomes read only). This is resolved by ejecting and reconnecting drive. Sadly, many computer devices/accessories seem to have a limited lifespan these days.

Excellent expansion hub!
I picked one of these up to use with my mac-mini in my studio, where I frequently have multiple firewire drives being changed out, and tons of USB stuff coming and going, so having USB plugs that aren't on the back of the computer is a huge plus, and don't even get me started on how nice it is to have firewire plugs I can get to. Changing out drives would be a constant pain if I had to get to the chaining plug on the back of my audio interface all the time, but with this, I've got a second plug right there on the desk. Brilliant product, no problems with this thing at all, highly recommended.

DANGEROUS PRODUCT - DO NOT BUY!!
I was thrilled to find this product, being one of the many stuck with a useless TB port and only 1 FW800. Boy, am I regretting using this product now, it has fried several of my drives!! Initially everything went fine, however after a several weeks things went down hill rapidly. At first it was intermittent, I would would turn on a drive connected to one of the FW800 ports and any drives that I already had mounted through the other port would suffer an improper eject. At first I thought it was a fluke and then as I continued to use the product (Big Mistake) the issue worsened to the point that even if I plugged in any USB devices the iLynx 800 would spontaneously dismount all connected peripherals not to mention the multiple "DISK NOT EJECTED PROPERLY" warnings. I contacted moshi and their customer service asked the usual "are we really the one's to blame" questions after which they politely and promptly sent a replacement. I sent my "dud" back to them, (at my expense) and started again with a fresh iLynx 800. All went well initially and then the process began all over again damaging more drives and dismounting any peripherals connected via USB. Final conclusion: Several damaged drives later, it's not worth the pain even if it's the most affordable FW800 port solution out there. No wonder this product isn't available on the apple site. Oh, and by the way, tried to submit a review on the moshi site ALL reviews are pre-screened by them!! Needless to say my review never appeared even after a few submissions.

Does the Job
Decent hub, nothing fancy. Looks good under my iMac and helps connect all the gear, but can't be used as a connection to charge various mobile devices.

USB x 4, FW 800 x 2 Moshi iLynx 800
The Moshi iLynx 800 has a FW 800 cable and a USB cable to plug into your computer and yields two FW 800 ports and four USN ports, so you gain one FW 800 and three USB ports. The unit is well made, and matches Apple aluminum computers. The wedge shape means that it sits by itself, with nothing on top of it. Using it in combination with the Moshi FireWire 800 to 400 Adapter (99MO023901) you can tame all your FW devices.

Simple and straightforward and has given me a few extra ports for wired connection - not a lot more to be said really, it works, straight out of the box and has been a real boon.
