Survived "Sandy"...
I've been meaning to write this review for quite some time now but its always slipped my mind. I will start by saying I got my flag pole for mothers day(finally)! When I received it I couldn't wait to put it up but refused to hang a flag until there was a light there to shine on it. I did a lot of research, so much that I almost gave up. I read reviews on this product& wasn't overly thrilled with some peoples way of reviewing this particular product so after my horrific & devastating event this past few weeks, I decided there is no better time than now. So here it is: I was skeptical at first but pleasantly surprised when I received my light. It was much bigger than I expected and had a lot more lights than I thought it would. It was extremely easy attach to my flag pole & worked the very first night. Everyone on my block is amazed and surprised that its a solar light because its so bright and is constantly complimenting how beautiful it is. I half expected by the reviews that almost 6 months later the lights would've dulled or gone out but it shines just as bright today as they did the first week. Recently the East Coast was hit with Hurricane Sandy, when it hit NJ it was downgraded to a superstorm or a tropical storm. When I went home after being evacuated I had no idea what to expect & if I did I still wouldn't have bee prepared. My home was flooded with about 4 ft of water in some spots on the inside, we lost just about everything. My flag pole still stood, and the light was still there surprisingly. On the first night without power in our area, that light was the only thing that lit the block. Once I pulled myself together enough, I hung my flag again under the light, and it was the only thing that brought any sort of comfort to me.I'm sorry for dragging my review out but I wanted to explain how well made& how durable this light could be. Surviving when most homes in my area didn't is a huge thing, especially the fact that its still lit and shines bright! If you are looking for a flag light, look no further, this is the best investment I've made in a long time! I would recommend this and buy it again and again for family and friends!

Simple and reliable way to respect Old Glory!
I've had this unit for over 2 months now, and I'm very pleased with it. It produces a bright light at least until the early hours of the morning. It is always dim, but lit, when I leave for work at 6:30 AM. I didn't have to deal with running underground low voltage wire, or be concerned with the associated light pollution that an uplight produces (a pet peeve of mine, being an amateur astronomer). It also lights the front yard area quite well. The only real downside to any kind of an uplight is that if it is very windy and the flag is fully extended, there is uneven illumination on it due to the proximity of the light to the flag. Flag code states that the flag should be 'properly illuminated' at night, which is highly subjective. In my own opinion, as long as you can tell that it's the U.S. Flag, you meet that criterion.Currently the light comes on at about 6PM, so there is enough battery power to provide some illumination for 12 hours. That's about all you can probably expect for a solar-powered LED light with today's technology. The limitation is more in the solar collectors than in the LEDs.I love seeing the flags lit (I have the Marine Corps flag below the U.S. flag) when I come home from work, and when I look outside at night. The rechargeable batteries will eventually lose their charging ability, but if they have to be replaced once or twice a year, that's fine with me. The light is well constructed and easy to install. I highly recommend this unit.

Great application for solar energy!
I've been looking at options for illuminating my American flag on a telescoping Sunsetter flagpole for some months now, and pretty much everything I found involved an unwelcome degree of expense and complication. Needless to say, I was delighted to find this product. The Amazon reviews indicated that I might find it less than perfect in our winter months when blue skies and sunlight are scarce around Seattle, but all things considered it looked very promising. My order was quickly processed and the light was delivered in good shape. Opening the package, I was disappointed to find that only two of the required three Ni-MH AA rechargeable batteries had been tucked away in the styrofoam padding. And those two batteries were a bit on the anemic side at 1500 mAH. So I wasn't able to mount the device that afternoon. The following morning another $16 was spent on a package of four 2700 mAH batteries at a local store, and three of the large capacity batteries were installed. As I installed the batteries in the upside down device, the LED's immediately turned on, indicating that the new batteries already had a decent charge. After that, the light was easily installed on the top of the flagpole and a minute or two later the flagpole, light, and flag were deployed. We had a really nice day to begin harvesting sunlight, and that evening the LED's turned on brightly just as the sun was setting. For the last two days the light has been shinning brightly beginning around 9:45 pm (local sunset in July) until around 5 am the following morning when the rising sun triggers its shutoff. The light casts a shadow on the adjacent deck furniture, so it is plenty bright. Looking over the light, I don't see any easy way to replace the LED's, which is a bit of a disappointment. One of my thoughts for the winter months was to reduce the amperage load by unplugging a portion of the 20 LED's, figuring a dimmer light that lasts all night is better than a bright one that fads out. However, with the larger capacity batteries I installed, this might not be a problem. I've rated the item at 4 stars because of the poor quality assurance evidenced by the absence of a needed battery. I hope Annin and Company take note of this review and become a little more proactive in examining their Chinese imports before shipping them out. I hope they will also consider adding a switch, either manual or temperature driven, to turn off a bank of the LED's if the the winter-time sunlight isn't enough to power it thru our long (16 hours,) cold winter nights. Even with the added expense of the extra batteries, this should prove to be a very good way to illuminate my flag. Of course it is a lot easier to try out this light with a telescoping flagpole, since accessing the top of the pole is not an issue. Those with a more permanent pole installation might want to wait a bit longer to make sure the light and batteries are long-lived.FALL UPDATE: We're about a month past the equinox. The sun rises no higher than 36 degrees, and it can be cloudy for days at a time. More importantly, nights are now over 13.5 hours long and will soon be 15 hours of darkness, with a corresponding decrease in daylight, and temperatures range in the 40's most of the time. In these conditions I find that the solar light does not carry through to the morning, and so I have removed the light from the top of the telescoping pole. Until next Spring, I plan to fly the flag in daylight hours only.

The perfect complement to your flagpole looks great day and night!
This sits at the top of our flagpole and looks great! Before we put it up we grew quite attached to it functioning as a nightlight!

A good buy.
Put this light on top a 22 foot pole. It shines quite brightly down the pole but as it is only about 8" in diameter it will only light about 1/4 of the flag below it well. All told it works well. It has been out in a 40 mph wind and rain and still works. A good buy.
