Good retention
I received my order on time a few days ago, I’m very impressed with the loader very well made hold the 38 ammo tight no wobble and they dump right into the cylinder flawlessly! I was so impressed that I’m receiving another one today so that way I will have 2 to carry with me as a backup! Great job!

Works well as advertised, good value
Works well in my S&W model 60 .357, had to trim the grip a little to get it to drop in smoothly but that would be the case for any speed loader. It is a very slim design, if there is an issue with clearance it’s your gun not the loader. It is a little tricky to get the rounds to lock in, they need to be tilted inwards. Once locked in it feels secure and they drop into the cylinder perfectly if you do your part. Will do more testing but initial impressions are good. Surprised such an affordable product works well

Does what it is supposed to.
This speed loader works just fine. Many of the low ratings are people who have grip interference. If your grip sticks out where the cylinder is when open, any speed loader is going to catch on it, that's just how it is. You either need to trim/change your grips, or accept speed loaders won't be ideal for you. This worked fine with my SP101, though the grip does prevent it from seating fully. But just turn the knob and the rounds will all drop in fine. It also works, or at least can be used, with my LCR. It will not fit all the way in, but you can nose the rounds in, turn the knob, and they drop in fine. You do have to be careful not to push them too far or it will bind. It isn't ideal, but HKS does not state or claim that this speed loader will work with the LCR. And if you look at an LCR and an SP101, the cylinders are not the same size. So it's not that surprising that it binds on an LCR. I initially had a bit of trouble with one of the slots. The "catch" wouldn't swing out to lock when a round was in place. I pushed the cartridge lip into the loader a bit, while pushing the knob in at the same time, and it locked over it. I haven't had any subsequent issue loading it. And you don't fill a speed loader in a critical situation, you empty it. So I'm not too concerned. But that's why it is only 4 stars.

Excellent!
I’ve purchased so many of these over the years, but I can’t recall whether or not I’ve reviewed the 36A. Excellent product, and they still work just as good today as they did thirty years ago when I bought my first one. I *will* be buying more! For reference, they work just fine with my S&W 638 that’s equipped with the stock bantam grips. I carry two of them in a cargo pocket whenever I’m packing that heater.

Great for the S&W 442 J Frame Airweight 38sp - The Best.
The HKS 36-A S peedloader is made with less expensive materials than some of the expensive, premium speedloaders, but it works better despite that, and the materials are adequate to the task at hand. Let's get this out of the way first: The HKS has a hard plastic cylinder with an aluminum knob. The mechanical parts of the HKS are simple, and moving parts are exposed - but that also means the parts are accessible if you are a mechanical kind of person, you could overhaul it with three itty-bitty roll pins. More expensive models are made with aluminum cartridge holders, which would be more durable, and have hidden mechanicals - but the designs of SOME do not work as well as they look. Anyway, this is not the kind of object you should be abusing - you're going to use it to load live ammunition, so it should be treated with respect. Don't throw it under your horse's hooves and encourage him to stomp on it, and you should be fine. Here are the good points: The HKS is easy and quick to fill with cartridges and lock them in. The HKS is extra light in weight and not bulky, which is nice if you are going to carry several. You can have *at least* two of these for the price of just one of most of the fancier models. However, I think the most important and immediate consideration is that the HKS 36-A for the S&W 38sp J frame works great. It is easier to maneuver the cartridges into the cylinder and it is VERY easy to quickly release the cartridges, get the speedloader out of the way, and get back to business.

EASY TO LOAD MY RUGER LCR 38 SPL+P (5-shot)
First, let me say, I am a senior citizen and also a fairly new gun owner. I purchased my Ruger LCR 38SPL+P about 7 months ago and have been looking for some kind of speedloader for the practice range. I purchased the strip kind, and although it is handy for holding the ammo, I don't find it eases the loading procedure; in fact, I prefer loading it by hand. After looking and looking at this" HKS 36-A Speedloader of S&W 36.." and its reviews for all these months, I took a chance and added it to an order where I needed the $35 minimum for free shipping. I although many reviews said it wouldn't work well with my Ruger, I had seen a couple reviews that said it did worked well with Ruger. I love it! It works just great for my 5-shot Ruger LCR and it is very easy to drop in the shells. You cannot slide them in all the way, but they easily drop in all the way after putting them in partially. You release them from the loader, they drop in, and there is no hassle at all. I would recommend this to anyone out there with a revolver like mine who wants ease of loading 5 shells at once. I want the ease of loading; I'm not interested in speed reloading for competitions and maybe that's what others are looking for. For ease, though, I am very pleased with this. I am a little awkward doing it right now, but I just received it and I'm sure with practice it will be even smoother reloading. I am so happy I tried it and am going to order more next time I need to top off an order with Amazon, or else look at local stores for it if I can get the same or better price. The price at Amazon is always good.
