Dry, understated cedar. Perfect if your partner doesn't like LOUD scents.
I realize that this fragrance has been out for a while, but I just got a bottle of it for the first time this week. It is like a classy, dry white wine. Strong note of cedar and not a projection powerhouse. As my wife says, "I want you to smell good when I kiss you, not smell you before I see you." Well, this is that kind of fragrance. Dry, understated -- just what I was looking for. Immediately bought a second bottle. Think of it as the anti-Ax Body spray. It's for you, not the room.

Lullaby
Let me start by saying I wasn't sure what I was expecting as it was a bit of a blind buy. I read about it on a comment on a reddit thread of all places about scents that reminded them of the roaring twenties. I was looking for something woody/subtle for the colder and darker days. From the reddit comment, I read that Encre Noire was woody, almost like walking through a damp forest on a rainy day. That description intrigued me enough to try it out. I bought it on Amazon almost right after without ever having smelled it before.Anyway, I'm pleasantly surprised by Encre Noire. From the first spray on my wrist I knew it was the type of scent I've been looking for to round up my meager collection. Straight away Lullaby by The Cure came to my mind from the first whiff, and I don't mean that in the stereotypical way, as if to say this scent is only for goths, something to wear at a deathsday party, or at a funeral. It's just that it's subdued and moody in its profile and that intrigues me more. It does have the rain forest smell, but I'd say it's a bit smokey as well. I feel like it's a scent that I could wear everyday and not feel like a walking fragrance shop. It's clean, moody, and quite unique. I don't think I've ever smelled anything like it before on anyone.Anyway, the true kicker in all this is that it's relatively cheap. There's not much to lose in trying it out. If you don't like it, then it's not like you blew through a hundred, or hundreds, of dollars on some scent. I spent around $30 for my bottle. However, I'm quite happy with it and I see myself buying it again once I finish the bottle.

Amazing Fragrance with an Amazing price
Absolutely fantastic scent, it really does smell like a walk through a cold damp moss covered forest but not overpowering at all. It's scent also does not move too far outward from the spot you put it making it known to those who are close enough to notice but not to those across the room. The longevity of it also is about 6 to 7 hours I've noticed but there will always be a faint trace of it afterward to someone who will be closer to you (I.e. your partner). Really recommend this to anyone looking for a soft damp earth scent without breaking the bank and the publics nostrils.

Vetiver and musk - one trick pony
Unless there was any doubt "Black Ink" is dark, dark, dark. As an absolute vetiver bomb this fragrance is probably one of the most obviously potentially polarizing I've ever had in my collection. I could see people either absolutely loving this or hating it without many in between. It's nearly all base note and murky - and the notes lean towards recalling a musty basement. However, I'm actually one that likes this intensely but it is awful for projection, longevity and I'm not really sure yet on silage. It definitely evolves very quickly to a skin scent and there isn't anything really up top to really accent the opening. And so while I do like it - I feel like I'll end up using this mostly as a scent for layering. Worth the purchase though if you like vetiver scents and musky dark scents.Edit: I have tried Encre Noir now with a few other frags to work on seeing how it works for layering and one in particular really meshes well. I have a bottle of Toro pour Homme from Alhambra which is a TdH dupe and I find it a bit thin and a tad boring - but decent enough -- it combines beautifully with this frag because they both give each other a bit of a boost. The Toro gives the EN a little more top and friendly character while the EN gives Toro a bit more base and rounds out the scent profile. Just a thought. -- Happy layering out there! ha

One of my favorites
It basically smells like a peppery version of Versace Eau. Not bad for the price. I expected more of a forest smell from the reviews but personally is more of a darker smoke and pepper smell with some light base notes.

Objectivity is important to consider
I don't regret my purchase, infact this is a great deal for the size of the bottle. If you love this scent you'll be able to bask in it but after wearing it for a few days I'm still not sure it will be a long term thing for me. I ordered it based on a trusted recommendation and It has all the notes I usually love in masculine scents but it has an undertone that smells a little like something's burnt or was dug up from the ground or maybe a hint of Body oder. The person who recommended it to me loves it, saying "this is what I imagine vampires would smell like" and wears it often and I think he smells great so I have a theory that it mixes with your natural scent and if the two don't mingle well you might not like it.I will say that I thought I accidentally sprayed too much and was afraid people would comment on it at work but my coworker couldn't smell it until we were close so that was a bonus on my book, plus the longer I wore it the better it smelled. All in all it was a good purchase, I think it's especially good for people who like natural smells but also that "masculine musk" present in most of those perfumes, maybe just try the smaller bottle first hehe

Encre Noire is Pure Power
Encre Noire is not just a fragrance it’s a statement. From the first spray, it commands attention without ever raising its voice. Deep, smoky vetiver wrapped in inky woods creates an aura of mystery, dominance, and quiet sophistication.
