Rock Hudson stars with the ravishing Gina Lollobrigida in a "…racy, romantic romp" (Motion Picture Herald) set on the breathtaking Italian Riviera.Every September, this successful New York businessman (Hudson) visits his Italian villa to relax and to romance his Roman girlfriend (Lollobrigida). But after arriving unannounced one July day, he's in for a huge surprise! During his absence, the luxurious home has become a hotel. What's more, the current guest list accommodates a gaggle of American girls with persistent boys pining after them. In a desperate attempt to regain control, Hudson manages to lose his privacy, his girlfriend and his mind - until he comes up with a plan of his own. This is the film in which Bobby Darin not only makes his feature debut, but also ends up marrying his lovely co-star, Sandra Dee, just ten days after filming wrapped. Come September also features beautiful camerawork by Greta Garbo's favorite cinematographer, William Davis, with designer Morton Haack creating Ms. Lollobrigida's exquisite gowns. Hanging out at an Italian villa with Rock Hudson and Gina Lollobrigida sounds like a painless way to kill a vacation--and Come September is a pretty painless movie, too. Rock is a millionaire who spends a month at his home on the Riviera every year, except this year he's come early and surprised his staff, who've been running the place as a paying hotel. This is one of those comedies of sexual frustration--Rock can't get alone with Gina, because the "hotel" is overrun with American teenagers (chief among them Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin, who married after meeting on the shoot). The plot is labored, and director Robert Mulligan shows little feel for farce (he would shortly hit his stride with To Kill a Mockingbird ). At least the location shooting has a nice summer breeze to it, and Darin sings "Multiplication" in a nightclub, complete with hepcat moves. --Robert Horton Review: Great classic movie from 1961. - I ordered this movie because I’ll be going to Italy later this year. Loved the movie! I just loaned it to a friend to watch. Review: A hidden Gem! - This is one of those Classics that you don't see or hear much about. A lot of people know and love the Hudson/Day movies but this one is just as good. Rock is his usually charming, funny self and Gina Lollobrigida is fantastic. She is funny, smart and beautiful. A perfect counterpart to Rock. My wife and I discovered this hidden gem a few years back and it has quickly become one of our "must re-watch over and over again" movies. It is set in Italy and Rock plays more of the father figure kind of like Cary Grant in Walk Don't Run. Its got a lot of laughs and the romance is high. Anyone who likes You've got mail, Pillow Talk, Send Me No Flowers, or romantic comedies in general has to watch this one.

A picturesque comedy filmed in Italy with a catchy theme song
Recommended for fans of Rock Hudson, Gina Lollobrigida, Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin. Like many DVDs and CDs that I ordered from Amazon, the purchase of this DVD was driven by nostalgia rather than a liking for the the leading cast or the the storyline. It's for me an average Rock Hudson movie without Doris Day. I first saw the movie around 1962 before I entered elementary school. I might have fallen asleep during the movie - it was not quite my cup of tea back then. There were two things that I remembered about the movie - the opening scene at an airport with the catchy theme that was composed by Bobby Darin. A Rolls Royce emerges from a cargo plane through the clam-shell door at the nose of the aircraft. It is driven out of the plane. For years since seeing the movie, I remembered that it is Rock Hudson who drives the Rolls Royce out of the plane but after seeing the DVD, I realised that my memory was flawed - it is a valet or chauffeur who drives the car and not Rock. The other thing that I was able to remember was what Mom told me during the show - Rock Hudson owns a villa in Italy where he stays only for a month each year but in his absence, the caretaker of the villa has turned the villa into a hotel without Rock's permission. If you like Italy, you will enjoy scenes of the Italian countryside. As a comedy, the movie is quite enjoyable but not superbly hilarious like ' Send Me No Flowers' , 'The Love Bug', 'Top Secret' or 'The Naked Gun.' A desire to listen to the 'Come September' theme is the main motivation for buying this DVD

Yes Siree, you don't see many like that!
This is one of the best classic comedy movies. If you are a fan of Gina Lollobrigida, chances are you won't be disappointed and will get to see her beauty and superb acting in this film. If you are a fan of Rock Hudson, then you will be delighted to see his humorous act in this movie. Nothing can be added to make this movie better than what it is now. Come September is one of those very light, romantic, and comedy movies ever made. You can see this movie whenever you want a break from all the movies we get to see these days. If you will buy this DVD, I can assure you that you will see it many times and won't let dust settle on it like it happens to many of the DVDs on our shelves. Worth spending each and every penny on purchasing this title.. GO FOR IT! You will love it.

A Classic Comedy, and Deservedly So
Once upon a time a fabulous group of actors got together to star in a frothy comedy set in the Italian Riviera: Rock Hudson, Gina Lollobrigida, Sandra Dee, Bobby Darin, Walter Zlezak, Brenda De Banzie, Joel Grey. It was 1960, in America we were dreaming of Camelot, and in sunny Italy a new prosperity was making life easier for most people. Those were, indeed, happier days. I look at this film with tremendous nostalgia. Everything in it is just about perfect. Rock reveals his gift for comedy in a very natural, spontaneous way. Gina is absolutely stunning: a perfect beauty, an ideal woman. The locations used for the film, at Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino, are breathtaking. A film I always go back to. This is a world I would like to inhabit.

A Classic
This movie is great! It has catchy songs and a great storyline. Believe me, you will walk away singing "Multiplication" for the rest of the day. As a huge fan of old movies, this one is one of my favorites. It's funny and charming. The locations are beautiful and it's fun to see a budding romance between Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin. I may be the only person under 30 to have seen this movie - but for me its a must see, and one I watch frequently. If you like the classics, add this one to your list. Recommended for those who enjoy Doris Day, Gidget, etc.
