He Who Invented The Feel Good Movie
This is a genuine feel-good movie. Fun, funny, great cast, wonderful premise, and like any Travolta movie, a super dance scene. How can anyone not love a movie that includes a meanie boss, a surprise performance by Edith from All in the Family, a brooding skeptical Reporter, a country song-writing sweetie , the world’s favorite dog, and a womanizing chain smoking angel? You can’t. Add great scenes in Chicago (parts filmed at an extension campus of UofC where I once taught so I can tell you they made it look super) and lots of surprise moments and little inside hints about angels and finally a joyous soundtrack of feel-good songs..Feel down? Pop this in the box and you’ll feel better. Once you watch it you’ll learn the angel invented feel-good movies. He saw everyone standing around moping and said, “Let’s make a movie that makes people feel good.”He invented that.

he's a good actor and he was super-charming and funny in this ...
I don't really care about all the gossip about John Travolta, he's a good actor and he was super-charming and funny in this movie! Jean Stapleton's cameo was wonderful. And boy, do I miss Robert Pastorelli every time I watch this movie...so sad about him, what a talent. Didn't really buy the romance between Andie McDowell's and William Hurt's characters, but I love the Michael storyline and John Travolta did a really excellent job in this film ("...I invented standing in line..."). One of my favorite movies ever.

One of the BEST films EVER !!!
Lovable, uplifting, romantic, finger snapping movie. Its worth the price to see John Travolta leading the pack in "Chain of Fools". Music and movie is enchanting. I loved everything about this movie. It was well-cast & played, and has a story and music that just stays in your heart. The movie has the most delightful offering at its end from Travolta and fellow angel, Jean Stapleton.

An amazing film for all ages
This movie continues to entertain all ages since it's release twenty years ago. It is timeless masterpiece. I watched it with my Daughter when she was ten years old, and last month I watched it with her daughter who is ten years old. The first time I watched it with my Daughter, I remember thinking that "Michael" was so sexy when he got out on the dance floor, and began that sexy swagger to, Chain of Fools. .All the women in that particular scene thought he smelt like cookies and were drawn to dance with him. When I watched it again, my Daughter now thirty years old leaned in to me and whispered, "Wow, he's kinda sexy. It made me laugh so hard. As I looked down at my Granddaughter sitting on the floor, I couldn't help but wonder, would she have the same exchange with her Mother in ten years. It was delightful to watch my Granddaughter laughing at the same scenes that I did all those years ago. A brilliant film with an amazing performance by John Travolta.

Not Your Typical Angel Movie--Captivating
Another favorite feel good movie of mine. Travolta is at his best as the down-to-earth angel that smells like cookies and attracts women wherever he goes. But the main story is about the relationship between a couple with conflicting interests covering a newsworthy story about a real angel. The story line is supported by great music that makes you want to dance along. A must see!

Let us celebrate the whimsical side of Nora Ephron -- a great American director...
What a premise! A Chicago-based tabloid scandal-sheet gets word of an actual Angel, residing at the Milk Bottle Motel in Iowa. Swirling behind are tabloid-management machinations to be rid a pair of mediocre writers, complicated in that one of the pair keeps Sparky, among readers the ever popular pup (having more thousands of fans than the human writers could ever dream of). Add to the complication a hired usurper to gain control of the pup (Andie McDowell), presented as an 'Angel Expert' (but actually just a dog trainer).John Travolta (as Michael -- the Angel in question), well, really does move a tide to make one want to believe.Ephron handles this star-studded cast in a way which brings the audience in to embrace the characters.I dare you not to cry as you watch this movie.Nora, we miss you , and shall never forget you.Enjoy some true human moments as you watch MICHAEL.StevieW

WISH I HAD LOOKED FOR WIDESCREEN
Beautiful movie that can make you weep more than once, but can make you laugh, more than once and has a happy ending. Grateful for the happy ending. After a very long crying spell it is good to have things end up more hopeful. This movie should be good for even non-believers as it touches on many human aspects. It has everything for someone sentimental and possible to touch the hearts of those not into sentiment as a rule. Life lessons. The female with 3 bad marriages made me cry with her song "sitting by the side of the road" (?) I believe was the title. I tried to find it in mp3 or see if it was listed in the sound track but did not find it. I love that song so very much. All of her songs were beautiful including the "Pie" song. Just too cute. It shows you can strike out 3 times through no fault of your own except that you need to say "no" to love if there are warning flags. It did not say she had any flags but by my own experiences, I feel she probably did but let her emotions rule her rather than caution. Gotta love a romantic though. The music was great in the movie even when not her singing. Just a wonderful movie. Not appropriate for children as the content had adult subject matter. (I am old fashioned so do not believe sleeping with someone to be appropriate for children but those are my views) I do not know how these movies are rated in this day and age. I have always loved this movie and had it on VHS. I assumed it was widescreen but did not view it until last night for the first time 6-21-14. Was disappointed it was not widescreen. Will query Amazon if too late to exchange for a widescreen version. Hope you buy it and enjoy!

I love this movie
I love this movie. John Travolta is brilliant as Michael. Andie MacDowell, William Hurt, Robert Pastorelli, Jean Stapleton and Bob Hoskins round out a great cast to bring this light romantic comedy together. Great date night film. They just don't make them like this anymore."BATTLE!"

A surprising gem
We'd heard about and read up about this film for some time and only now managed to find one compatible to UK dvd players. This certainly is so and the film is a little gem.John Travolta takes the lead in this film where a trio of newspaper people are despatched to check out a story that an 'angel' is at large in a town somewhat away from their offices in Chicago. They all meet and are shocked by Travolta's demeanour and appearance, living in a suburban house with his landlady, he with a beer belly, long hair, less than angel like mannerisms, heavily smoking and...full length wings.During their few days together on a road trip back to Chicago, the trio witness his charm, intelligence, his empathy of each others' needs desires and fears and his pied-piperesque captivation of any women in his company.Once there is a tragic event to which he is called upon and they witness him carry out a minor miracle, their hitherto scepticism disappears and aware his "time" is drawing near (as apparently, angels only get up to 26 revisits and this is his) they hasten back to Chicago to present this honest-to-God angel to the world...whilst they can.No spoilers......get the film. You won't regret it.

Chopped
One of my favourite films - coarse enough to avoid too much saccharin. This is a film with a big screen identity and unfortunately the version - the one in the picture with the huge PG on the front - I bought has been technically adapted to an old TV screen size thus wrecking the feel of the film. Disappointed

Wrong aspect ratio. Avoid.
STANDARD VERSION. THIS FILM HAS BEEN MODIFIED AS FOLLOWS FROM ITS ORIGINAL VERSION, IT HAS BEEN FORMATTED TO FIT YOUR SCREEN. Wish I'd read that before I'd bought it or the other reviews for that matter. Hey ho, a bit of tinkering with your TVs aspect ratio setting and it's still watchable. Better copies out there for the money. Okay I've you've still got an old valve telly.

Michael
Pure genius. This is Travolta at his best. Without a doubt one of the the funniest films I have seen in a while. Great family entertainment about 3 newspaper reporters who report on stories based on claims of various extraordinary events. In this case a woman who claims to have an angel living in her upstairs bedroom (Michael). The main sory being an attempt to get the angel back to the newspaper where the story can be written , photos taken and a fortune made by all concerned. However things are never that simple and Michael has an agenda of his own. Super film don;t miss this one.
